Slow oil leak...
I just noticed that the Vic leaks oil a tiny bit. Going to try to find out from where this weekend...

Re: Slow oil leak...
Since I changed my oil on my Accord this last time it has had a bit of a leak. It's the oil filter, I must have brushed up against some of the grime surrounding the filter when installing the new one. The debris got onto the gasket surface and it's not sealing properly. I still haven't addressed it though. I just park over a piece of particle board until my next change.

just don't let all the slow oil leak out or you'll have to drive fast all the time.

Re: Slow oil leak...
Nevermind, it seems like it's coming from the transmission. Likely the pan gasket is on its way out...
I'll do more research... It's such a slow leak that it doesn't really matter much yet...

Time for that manual transmission conversion. It shouldn't cost much more than rebuilding that automatic.

that depends on if he's doing it or if he's gonna pay someone else to do it.

Front/rear crank seal, valve cover gasket(s), distributor drive o-ring, oil pan gasket. Just look in all those places, and somewhere you will find oil dripping.

Grandpa, can you read me a bedtime story about the days of Knights, Dragons and Distributors?1974Alfa5spd wrote:Front/rear crank seal, valve cover gasket(s), distributor drive o-ring, oil pan gasket. Just look in all those places, and somewhere you will find oil dripping.

I'm not your Grandpa, kid, but I'll tell you a story. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor on my 1980 Buick. It was quite an adventure for a modern computer geek. The replacement was cheesy and its terminals broke off. I marked the wires by painting numbers on them but it rubbed off while I was struggling to get everything in place.Rope-Pusher wrote:Grandpa, can you read me a bedtime story about the days of Knights, Dragons and Distributors?
The AIR pump is stupid and I'd like to remove it.

My last airpump ran off it's own belt, so that was the first thing to go. Then the rest came off and I plugged all the holes in the manifold and converter.theholycow wrote:I'm not your Grandpa, kid, but I'll tell you a story. Re: Slow oil leak...
Everything on my Buick has its own belt, no serpentine belt for that car. Stupid question, how does one replace the AIR pump belt on a car like this? Remove the fan?Rope-Pusher wrote:My last airpump ran off it's own belt, so that was the first thing to go. Then the rest came off and I plugged all the holes in the manifold and converter.

Sometimes, the factory shop manual is worth it's wait in goaled, if it can save you some time by giving an order to disassemble and reassemble. On the otter's hand (paw?), i've followed the shop manual and been led down a wrong path - and this error was on a carry-over part.
If this is really the last time you'll need that belt, cut it!
