power steering problem

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

power steering problem

Post by Takigu »

the avenger is kinda out of commission right now and prolly will be for awhile anyway i'll make another topic on that in asec.
i'm planning to get a '93 ranger XLT 5MT 4X4 with a 3.0L V6 in a few days and the only problem with it is that one of the power steering line has a hole in it. is there anything that i need to know before i start to take the hose off? i know like nothing about power steering. do i have to like bleed the system or anything?

if its anything like clutch hydraulics and brake lines, everytime you do something with the hoses you have to bleed the system. so just replace the hose and bleed the air out i would think

Holy SHIT

You don't bleed the air like that. All you have to do is replace the hose and refill the power steering pump!!!!

Then bleed the power steering - Its easy as hell; all you have to do is turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and make sure the fluid level is topped off.

You're then done!

I don't think that'd be the best deal in a truck. But whatever...

I don't know about anyone else, but I like power steering about as much as I like A/C. I f**king love A/C and power steering.

i hate not having power steering for the past few days. its a pain in the ass to be sore from lifting and trying to turn a car with no PS and big tires

its cool tho at the track when i air my tires down to 20psi, ill get used to turning it thru the staging lanes and off the track and shit, then afterwards ill air them up to 45psi again and it feels like i have power steering.

Is it the floor-shift 4x4 or the electronic shift?

Make sure to exercise it regularly. My 1997 Ranger with electric transfer case didn't go into 4wd easily, because it never got used.
