'09 focus custom Air intake

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

^^^^^ then i do have the PZEV engine

the one thing i personally do not understand about the PZEV engines is that the stock airfilter never gets changed. it is meant to be there for life.

im not kidding it says if i think it is dirty to take it in for diagnostic testing. the filter is made to last the life of the car.

Apparently true, though...
* **Life-time air filter:** Introduced on the PZEV version of the Duratec engine, and then carried over to all Duratec engines, is a life-time air filter. Designed to last 100k miles, this special foam air filter is not user serviceable, and replacement requires an entire new unit from Ford. Because of this design, there are no 'drop-in' performance air filters. With the design refresh in 2008, Ford went back to a user-serviceable air filter for non-PZEV equipped Focuses.

People who choose to buy the optional PZEV model do so because they're more interested in environmentalism (less filters in the landfill, less filters being manufactured) than they are in squeezing out every ounce of power.

For almost anyone who's not in a hurry, an air filter that lasts 100,000 miles would sound nice -- that's one less maintenance item to worry about. If the cost added up the same or better, I'd choose a non-servicable 100,000 mile air filter.
