If I was doing 70 and in 2nd gear in my auto civic, I'd be at like 12,000,000 rpm. The poor little thing would just explode. Very nice, though. Now you have to hyper mile it and see what you can get...
LOL jk, that's a waste.

I don't quite go that far, but when I commute in it, I tend to behave. I spend a lot of time in the fast lane jsut so I can avoid the entry/exit games along the way. A lot of 65-73mph driving, some stop-and go - maybe 25% of my commute.
And I'm getting right at 19mpg. I'm happy with that.
Of course, that DOES include the isolated throttle test session somewhere along the line.
(70 mph in second is almost at the limiter = 6500rpm.)

With so much torque I would expect taller gears...I wouldn't think there's enough traction to use gears that short.

That'd be a crap-eating grin!
And, yes, it's very traction-limited, even stock. Stock GT500's sometimes test slower 0-60 than less potent machines due to wheelspin.
In daily driving, it's fine. I've not even begun to explore it's limits w/ traction contol and stability-control systems turned off. I'm not confident enough in my driving abilities without acres of space around me!
