2012 Challenger SRT8

Post by LynnF1 »

Traded the Shelby in on a Challenger a month or so ago... black w/ charcoal interior. 470hp, 470 lbs feet of torque. Supposedly good for mid-high 12's in the quarter, top speed 175.

And, sorry... it's an automatic. :(

The car is much quieter and more comfortable than the Shelby was. You can actually hear the stereo over the sound of the exhaust/engine!

Pluses:

Its much larger and more comfortable. Has nav, satellite radio. Getting roughly 18mpg so far.

Minuses:

Slower, of course. HUGE c-pillar - have to be careful when changing lanes, merging.

All in all, a very nice car. Three modes - standard, Sport (holds gears a little longer, stiffens up the suspension), and Track (more of the same). Has paddle shifters for manual mode.

Sorry Lynne but the Shelby was a far cooler vehicle. I don't mean to come off harsh, but if a quiet ride was a priority, Shelby was the wrong choice for you. IMO, CTS-V wagon is what you need.

This. On a more serious note, any particular reason for the Challenger over other... challengers..? 8)

Sorry to disappoint everyone.

Only other option I thought about was the new 580hp Camaro. I find it ugly.

You can go sit in the corner with Potownrob

S'all good. I guess you can stick around. When did you get the Edge?

EDIT: And of course, obligatory request for pics... all of you with your fun sports cars...

Not so much disappointment as curiosity. I thought they offer the SRT8 with three pedals, so I'm curious why you would choose otherwise. Availability? Tired of rowing your own?

Periodic gout and a bad left knee.

Someone else will enjoy the Shelby more.

You are excused from judgement on driving a PRNDL stick. I would've taken the Shelby off your hands for free

If you wanted it to be larger, and since manual transmission was no longer a factor, I would have went with the Charger, but hey, that's just me

Just kidding. Great choice. Can't wait for the pics. And I'm sorry you couldn't drive a stick anymore :(

AND... the obligatory CTS-V plug: Was the Cadillac CTS-V one of your candidates? Because it seems like more up your alley in terms of what you like: comfort, quietness, nav, space, PERFORMANCE. You know the CTS-V is faster than your Shelby, right?

Umm... it is. No big deal.

Didn't look at the CTS-V, though I understand they're great cars.

Out the door for $48K for the Challenger, plus liberal trade-in for the Shelby.

Well, you got yourself a car for your birthday. So happy birthday! (It says it's your birthday on the bottom of the forum home page).

Challenger SRT is one of the few new cars on the road I like. They drive fantastically, sound phenomenal, and are overall excellent cars. Plus the go sideways really well. The automatic really drains a lot of the fun from them though.
