you beat the driver, not the car. The G35s and G37s do mid 5 seconds when driven by an experienced driver. (For the auto) The DSG GTI does low 6 seconds.

Now it could have been the guy was either inexperienced, or driving an older model slushie g35

uhhh... 5 or 6 seconds on the quarter mile? no.
5 or 6 seconds on 0-60 maybe. but that doesn't matter too much (most sports cars these days that are worth anything do it in 4 or 5)

That's OK - when you lose, just do the ricer-flyby!
When you're doing that flyby, make sure your ballcap is turned sideways at an awkward angle, and make damn sure to take your hands off the wheel and hold the wheel with your knees while you're flipping the double-eagle.

(Disclaimer: If you do what I posted, you're f*cking retarded.)

(if i may post this piece of wisdom) losing a race is how the car gods tell you that your engine is too small.

Who said anything about a quarter mile?

I was referring to 0-60 times. Obiously those cars can't do the quarter mile in 5 seconds DUH.

Since we are talking about Stock GTI and STOCK G37, I don' think we need to be talking about 4 second 0-60 times.

Certainly the cars can be modified, but it would be silly to automatically assume they are modded.

...drag racing forum, dood. and i don't recall anyone mentioning 0-60 times either.

4 or 5 second 0-60s is nothing special. I was trying to pull relevence out of it.

Whats up guys, new to the site and enjoying it.

I have an 07 GTI package 0, 6 speed, APR stage 2+ and WALK G35/350Z's. They are overated IMO.

Base GTI's only weigh 3000 lb. And stock they're detuned so they don't outshine the weak MKV R32. With a few bolt ons and a tune they really wake up.

That's great and all, but I'm sure a modded G35 would walk stock GTIs as well.

GTIs are definitely quick cars, but you're basically bragging about taking candy from a baby.

Well seeing how the GTI is a 22k 2.0L econo-hatch, I don't think I would call it taking candy from a baby. With the big difference in displacement and price, I think the GTI does pretty well considering the G35 is out of its class.

Here's a video of a Stg 2. GTI VS. G35 with the I/E, the same mods as the GTI.

You can't really compare a modded car to an unmodded one, especially when you are comparing a luxury tourer to a hot hatch.

i don't post here much, but seeing as how i also own a gti, and regularly race my friends in their g35 or g37, i decided to post.

two things. gti is fwd. g35 and g37 is rwd.
gti is also a VERY heavy car for its size as someone already pointed out, so the weight difference is minimal.
3000-3100 is not only. thats a heavy car. what a 500-600 pound diff?

even as a slushie, if he knows how to launch, it'll smoke a well launched gti.
if its a manny and he knows how to launch, he'll smoke you that much more.
my friend is a better shifter than i am, and a better launcher than me.
when i get in his g35 and he's in my gti, i still smoke him.
the g37 is a slushie. it just wins.
rwd >fwd in launching.

heh for all you know he was still breaking in his engine.
it seems like he was just toying with you imo, and just stayed side by side to play with you a lil.

to clarify, i meant stock to stock comparo.

Stock GTI's are running 14.2 with 2.1 60's. Isn't that close to a stock G35? (I know the OP is talking about new G37's)

And I wouldn't call 500lbs a minimal weight difference. Generally speaking thats about a 1/2 sec off your E/T.

I beat stock and bolt on Z/G's all the time, I have yet to race an 07+ though. I know this thread is about stock for stock, and I agree a G37>GTI by a lot.

BTW, do you plan on staying stock? You can get free APR and Revo trials... You'd be suprised how well you hang with your friend's G with just a reflash.

paul34 wrote:G37S's have extremely quick auto trannies. So there is no advantage there.
The G37S is the sport model that only comes in manual, but yes the G37 auto is very close to the same speed as the 6MT, manual tranny being about a 5.2 0-60. Quoted from autospies on the gti, "Going from 0 to 100 km/h will take 6.5 s, reduced to 5.8 s with the direct-shift gearbox." 100km/h=62mph

Any G37 would smoke any gti even with a retarded driver in the G37. It's pretty hard to drive so bad that you lose over a half second in your 0-60 (especially with an auto which is most likely what the guy had).

Just because a guy lines up with you and looks at you doesn't mean he wants to race. I eye up pretty much anyone in any car haha, and sometimes they try to race me as I just take it easy (and sometimes they almost beat me!).
