Don't know about your engine and tranny, 4k might be a bit early. Sure the torque there is falling, but power may still be before its peak.
true, but the power will start to increase more slowly. between 3k and 4k you might have a 50 horsepower gain (imaginary car, don't worry) but between 4 and 5k, you might have a 30 hp gain. not really worth it. that's between you and your car. discover it today at your local Dyno tester! j/k, but if you're serious, go for it. (i find it WAY too expensive for them to just sit there and burn my gas up)

anyways, if you want an engine that you can redline try one of GMs LS series. tested at max RPMs for several hundred hours nonstop. i'm sure FMC's got something like that, although i haven't looked it up (chevy man, myself).

anyway, the only thing it's probably going to hurt is your 1/4 mile time. shifting late loses power, but not nearly as badly as shifting early. find the "sweet spot" and you'll be all good.

I always heard the best place to keep the engine was between the HP and torque peaks. I don't even think about it though....if I'm accelerating hard, I'll tend to shift at ~6000.

Redline in my car is 6250, but there are people who'll wring their modded LS1s out to 7000+ and they seem to take it OK.
I drive a Phantom Black 2005 GTO M6. I commute in a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

my redline is 7k, i take it up to 6k pretty much daily. i start to get valve float around 65, so theres not much point in being up there.
runs great. knock on wood.
