You can see why once cars start running this quickly, autos can have an advantage if one is building a 1/4 mile only car.

Anyone watch the show Pinks! on Speed Channel? The host is a boob, but one of the episodes had this statin wagon, nicknamed the "Wooly Mammoth", because they put fur on all the exterior body panels... That thing had crazy horsepower, it was fun to watch.

Also, Autos generally have an advantage with turbos... They can build boost right off the line... You need a 2-step or anti lag tuning to get that in a manual.

. . . Take on that auto in the twisties, however, and you'll see it go into a ditch in your rearview.

Not if you tune your ECU properly...

This guy is a genius who tuned his Firebird to upshift at redline and downshift near redline:

The SVX also has similar capabilities stock: you stick the auto in "1", and it will automatically shift up at redline, and down when it's possible. :)

Granted. However, most of us will stick it any day before trusting a computer. While a computer may make quicker, more controlled shifts, it cannot predict the road ahead and the conditions that greet the tires.

However, that article isn't bad for an auto, I'll admit.
