Launching Technique

Post by manualshift »

Yeah so my car is a 4 banger and have its peak torque at 3200 and rev limiter is 7000, I've been practicing launching for about 3 days now (i thought revving it high and dropping the clutch was all that cause of movies lmao) and what i've figured best is i rev to 3000 slip the clutch a little bit and gas pedal pressure about 60-70 % and just as the little wheelspin is over i go full throttle

any tips for me to improve? its better i start with a 60-70% throttle right than going full right away when slipping the clutch for a bit

My mistake, I didn't notice it was in the "Drag Racing" sub-forum. I wasn't paying attention when I used "View active topics" to see new posts.

i was just about to talk so much sh*t until i saw it was in the drag racing forum. i would've made you cry so hard.

for any car you just need to find the perfect rev's to launch at (use of a two step is recommended) and just dump the clutch. you don't want to slip the clutch at high rev's because it puts unnecessary wear on the clutch. you want just the right rev's so that your at your peak power, but not slipping the tires so that your at the peak of the tires traction

Fixed.

Agreed. Optimum launch is indeed at peak power but below peak traction.
I see idiots (and we're talking a major, busy truck route, so epic idiots) every once in a great while dragging from the intersection down the road, and non-stop, even though they warm their tires, I hear *REEEEV SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH! VOOOOOM!*

I really enjoy it when somebody does it right and the other guy is still spinning tires. I only wish I could know it was coming, so I could be standing there with my binoculars to see the "WTF?!" look on his face.
