Post a picture of your shifter!
Re: Post a picture of your shifter!
I has a column shifter. It's a typical Ford design from the 90s. Please don't make me take a picture.

There's no need, Ford used exactly the same shifter in every column shift vehicle from like 1988 to 2008 or something.

The only difference is that they went from shiny metal to drab matte plastic, correct?

Well...the shifter's I've seen in most Ford trucks pre-2002 are like...black plastic, with a cylindrical knob that has a button, and a line texture:
Variations over the years have had the arm bent a little towards the driver, the knob shortened, the removal of the "Overdrive" label (sometimes you might find O/D)...but it's the same damn knob.
They later lengthened the knob down towards the steering column, and turned the shifter into a 4" cone, with a rubbery grip (Dad's 06 F-150 has this, Mom's old 03 Explorer had this as well...)...I like the older Ford knobs...now you'll find most automatic Ford cars with the shifter on the floor...base Ford trucks are the last vehicles with the column shifter, and the Ranger is the last Ford truck with the old-style column shifter.
Next truck will be a stick. No doubt.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I was going to create a similar thread until I searched and found this one. Anyway, here's a picture of an Audi A5 shifter, but it's not from my car. I don't have wood grain trim, I have fake carbon fiber trim.

Here's what helps Clifford go. I wish he had a sixth gear, 3k revs on the highway is a bit excessive, but he still gets 34 mpg during the warmer months.

Re: Post a picture of your shifter!
That seems to be pretty standard now. Someone said here why they do that and IIRC it's to negate the need to downshift before passing. It's kind of silly, I'd personally prefer it to sit around 2500-2k and go for 4th when I need passing power, but people in general are stupid so we have to put up with band-aids to cover their shortcomings.tankinbeans wrote:
