Scion FR-S Drift Video that I edited (& some extra goodies)
So, uh...hi StandardShift! It's been like four years. Miss you guys, thought of you & my noob -> regular stickshift driver experience every time I taught a new friend how to drive stick.
Anyway, this is what I've been up to lately. Once a car enthusiast, always a car enthusiast. I like shooting videos, I like cars...really lucky to have this job fall into my lap. We'll see how the future pans out, but for now...I'm not minding getting paid to hold a camera while getting hit in the face with tire shrapnel from a drift car.

Wait, you shot and edited that first video? That's some professional stuff. Nice job!
Welcome back, dude!

First, I'll say hi... Second, I will have to watch this videos once I get home. Silly internet at work blocking certain things. Finally, I'm almost drooling about the FR-S. Too bad even though we sell them, I probably will not see one until they are out for public sale...

Seriously. The FR-S might be the car to sway me to the JDM world, lol. Now I wonder if you can get the "toyobaru" boxer to sound as good as the Cosworth one that's in the GReddy FR-S...Squint wrote:Finally, I'm almost drooling about the FR-S. Mad editing style, man. Very modern. I love your typography style.
I see from your Vimeo that you use Premiere Pro. Very nice. I use Sony Vegas HD Platinum, one step below Vegas Pro. It seems easier to use, for me at least. Just started dabbling with shooting video. A lot of people, like you, like shooting video with DSLRs. I like using video cameras, and I have a Canon Vixia HFS20 which shoots native 1080/24p, and I think it's great. When I shoot for-fun things like parties, it looks like footage from a reality TV show. It's quite fun

Thanks for the compliments!
Yeah, DSLR's aren't the end-all be-all of video. They're very good at certain things, like shallow depth-of-field & interchangeable lens versatility, but they're also plagued with rolling shutter, resolution issues from line-skipping on the older DSLR's, lack of really good image stabilization, lack of autofocus, lack of easy audio input & management...it's such a mixed bag.
You have to be so much more "active" when shooting on DSLR's; they're more akin to digital cinema cameras than video camcorders, sometimes I envy the camcorder guys who can just hit auto expose, lock exposure and hit record.
But damn is shallow depth-of-field beautiful when you can pull it off correctly. Racking focus to draw the viewer's attention is awesome.

Amen to that. That is what I like about video shot with DSLRs. It really is like a "motion" picture, haha. I can never approach that amount of clarity with my video camera. The video from my camera looks like a movie, while video from a DSLR looks like... real life, sort of.pmacutay wrote:But damn is shallow depth-of-field beautiful when you can pull it off correctly. Sadly, the only DSLR I have is a Nikon D90, which only shoots 720p.

I would be happy with that. At the moment, I have a point and shoot and my phone. And I can't decide which takes vaguely better shots...six wrote:Sadly, the only DSLR I have is a Nikon D90, which only shoots 720p.

More random Evasive Motorsports shenanigans:
First section is my typical flashy edit style showcasing the event, 2nd part is a MTV Cribs-style walkthrough of their shop.
One day I'll own a garage like theirs...

That. Is. Off the Chain. Your videos make most others look like uninspired school projects.
