Birthday Luck

Post by Tinton »

Yup, today's my 25th birthday, and I've had to get my cars smogged. I just took my 86 in yesterday and it passed (second try  ), though they couldn't give me a printout of the results. I didn't know how close it was until today when I looked up the VIR reprint online. Just look at NOx ppm . Is that lucky or what? 1-2 more ppm and it would've failed. Now I don't have to get the car smogged again, ever . I think its time to run open headers  .

The trick to passing the smog test is to thoroughly warm up the vehicle prior to the test. Like 40 minutes of freeway driving, then drive right up to the garage and get the test. Plugs are cleaned up, catalyst is up to temperature, engine is not running rich to try to heat catalyst, etc. They had problems in Michigan where senior citizens, with cars less than 1 year old, were failing the tests. Seniors rarely drive long enough to heat up the engine, catalyst and plugs to clean them off, let alone take the time / know to do it right before the test.

Hmm... So by Rope's reasoning, my car (let's say the exhaust system worked...properly) would pass the test with flying colors since I always warm it up and give it an Eye-talee-in tune up every now and then (every drive)

^ yeah, that. Some years, I threw in a fresh set of plugs first, but I still did the drive to get it all up to temperature. Them cadillac converters can work miracles when they are given the chants.

Wow. My 1990 Mercedes straight-6 with crummy fuel injectors and 278,000 miles passed with flying colors on everything. Check the spark advance, it may be set too far. If that's the issue, then it's going to have a negative effect on any extra power you want to make in the future. Anyway, hooray for being smog-free! Here, I can never bet on having any of my fuel-injected vehicles to be smog free.
Shame since the straight-6 sounds really good with an open manifold.

I think that'd cause some pretty bad knock...

^ Hey, if someone dropped money on the ground, you would pick it up, right?

It's the same way for me when I see an opening for a pun or joke.

So, how did you find out that my last name is Zinger?
