Saabs on the Summit

Post by watkins »

Eight Saabs recently made a trip up Mt. Washington. For those not familiar, its the highest point in the northeast at 6288 feet and is home to the world's worst weather.

Here are some highlights from my pictures.

This is what I got to hear for a full 20 minutes on the way down. Between this car and mine, we scared a few people.

^ I've always wanted to mount Washington and pay them back for all the raping of the taxpayers all these years.

My 1997 Pontiac Grand Am, underachiever that it was, strolled up and down the mountain like it was an average everyday suburban drive with its slushbox, stock brakes, and stock 3.1 liter pushrod V6. It could have towed a Saab.

There's no need for a turbo to get up and down Mt. Washington.

My Buick probably wouldn't make it though...

Looks like fun. I'd get a group of Civic guys to go, but I can already see how that would turn out......

No, but it sure makes it way more fun. The thin air means its always at some spool level. Constant turbo noise = win. Besides, I still had all the torcks I needed and then some. No loss of power in thin air also = win.

Actually that would be a Holset HX35, Viggen Rescue Kit, and custom tune. Thats good for crazy FWD nonsense at well over 400whp

Factory internals are fine to that level actually. The older versions of the engine ('98 and before) can take even more abuse without issue.
