Yes, but I don't do anything with it. My wife usually logs in and deals with ignoring requests for me.

I was emailing her about Isuzu Rodeos on EG's recommendation, which is how I knew about her FB troubles and such.

Cool cool.

 . To leave it on the car is illegal. Safety hazard. But drivers are too lazy to take 30 seconds out of their morning routine to clean it off.

Oh, gotta love those old people and their way of thinking how everything related to Internet is a waste of time. I actually once got offended when I was referred as a virtual friend. Made me feel like a Tamagotchi...

Since I know some forum members in person, the ones I dont know really are virtual friends only and I feel as though separation between the two groups isnt entirely unwarranted

Oh noes! :( Poor Tercel... I'm glad you're ok Kelly. Hopefully that Escort is a standard?

This is another reminder not to listen to those people who say I should be ok on summer tires in the winter. We got a few of snow yesterday...

She sent that to me, too, but I wasn't sure if she wanted it posted. :|

Some kind of separation is indeed appropriate, but "virtual friend" doesn't quite say it. The people are real and are a friend in some capacity. The closest thing to precedent there is would be "pen pals", so you could say "keyboard pal" or maybe "forum friend", but that's incredibly dorky.

Personally, I recommend not talking about it IRL at all except as necessary.

It becomes difficult to categorize well. Terminology makes it so.
I do talk about forum friends to some extent every once in a while. At the auto show yesterday, for example, I was talking about a certain neon green Genesis coupe after we saw a red one. Green looks better.

The word I paid attention to was virtual. I don't know about you, but for me it means something that's more like a simulation and doesn't exist in real life. For what I know most of the people I've met online have a living physical body somewhere. About some I'm not absolutely sure - the might be some Ghost in the Shell stuff involved.

While I'm a bit old-fashioned, having flesh-and-blood friends who I meet and hang out with on a regular basis, the modern society doesn't necessarily require you to do so. I don't see anything wrong in having real friends you've never met in person and probably never will. For some people it's easier to interact with other people over the lines, and the friends they have online might be closer to them than any people they've met in real life. Also, even if one doesn't consider online-only friends as "true friends", they might turn into such over time, for example if you move to another city.

Of course there's a line in some online relationships, but not, IMHO, in normal friendship. As for the aforementioned "some relationships", I don't understand people who think you can only find potential girl- or boyfriends from bars, nightclubs etc. Heck, I met my ex on an online forum!
