That was one thing. Others include compact-geometry frames, large cross section oval tube, lightweight cranks/derailers/chains/headsets/hubs/spokes/rims/seatposts/saddles/pedals/bolts/brakes/forks/handlebars/every other damned thing too.

Come to think of it, that bike is FS and I still think in terms of hardtails.

Having the bike be lightweight is really nice when you unexpectedly have to bunny hop to avoid endoing. Though, I guess with FS you get a bit of assist on that.

Carbon frames and light-weight everything is a whole other ball game. Now we're talking about 5-6 thousand bucks here. I was not including those. Although I do have a carbon headset on this bike. Looks nice.

Everything is getting lighter, more flexible and better. Like hockey sticks and tennis rackets, those things are so light compared to the ones in the 90's

I like how the seat attaches to the frame, looks sturdy. and the shocks on the front look like they're ready for anything.
