Me too! It came with Windows ME, which as we all know, was total garbage. Many moons have passed since.

Back then, having more video RAM usually didn't mean anything. It was as simple as having enough for the resolution and color depth you wanted to run; 4mb was enough for 1280x1024 at 24 bit color or 1024x768 at 32 bit color. Well, that's according to a chart I just looked up, but I remember 1mb being enough for 1024x768 at 24 bit (or at least 16), and the chart says more is required.

Only rich people and professional graphic artists used resolutions higher than that, on huge monitors, so they and people with special ray-tracing software with its own video card drivers were the only ones who could use more video RAM.

Windows 98SE could be convinced to run reasonably well, but that was not within reach of the average home user.

Yeah, when games came out that took advantage of advanced video card functionality and video cards came out offering even more advanced power...that's when more video RAM started having a use beyond resolution or ray tracing.

Why the heck did I wait until the end of June to join here? I got the car in February.

I remember them, but I jumped from 486SX/25 to AMD K6-2/400, Riva TNT had just come out, so there was no longer need to buy a separate 2D and 3D cards. It was, btw, the last time I bought a "top-of-the-line" video card. Later I stuck with cheaper models because I didn't play games that required more performance.
