Driving an auto being better than walking... thats debatable

Nah I would rather drive a slush than walk... but hell I'd rather ride my push bike than drive an auto as long as it's not to another town

Welcome to the forums.

I learned on a 96 Civic as well, it was a decent ride. Make sure you sit close enough, I sat too far away and had problems with the relatively heavy clutch pedal. It grabs fast as well, watch out for squealing tires on launches. :P

Howdy.

S'alright, there are more than a couple people here stuck with a slushbox.

If you really enjoy standardshifting, then it shouldn't take too long to find an MT car in your price range.

Welcome to the forum.

i heard civics are an easier car to learn on. i read your faq section and i pretty much have an idea of what to do but i dont know anything about cars at all. My father drove big rigs since i was little he retired now but he originally came from Europe and he drove manuals there obviously since autos are scarce there. and he has since beeen sick of stick shifts so he stopped driving them . and my mom learned on a stick also and she got sick of driving them also . the closest i ever came to driving a stick was on my ex bf's 4 wheller and yeah that didnt turn out so well. lol but i am pretty confident that i will do ok learning .and yes i am thankful that i at least have a car. i was alittle intimidated cause i know how u guys hate autos i didnt think u would even reply to me since i drive an auto . lol

look, i drive a slush (hence the name, wannabe). my dad wouldn't teach me stick in his beetle, so my gpa taught me in his escort a WHILE ago (like three years this coming august). i haven't driven a stick since then, but that don't stop the guys here from hatin me...(at least out loud)...

Watercolor drives an automatic too (95 GMC Sonoma), and our resident Prussian, Johnf, drove an auto for 2 years (?) while moderating this board. Driving an auto isn't a crime here. Preferring it over stick, or refusing to learn stick for some stupid reason is. :D :D

Ah, yes... The spaceship... "We come in peace. Take us to your leader! shazbot! na-nu na-nu" I remember the spaceship... Big ol' bubble. Boy did we razz him about that thing. and then he got the 3, and we all had to shut up...

We don't hate on people who drive autos. We tend to hate a bit on people who do, as Nychold said, one of two things.

"Automatics are the best friggin' transmission there is! No, I won't listen to your invulnerable evidence of how much better manuals are, because I'm a stubborn jackass!"

or,

"I don't wanna learn stick, 'cuz it's like, hard, man."
"Stick is stupid. You're lame!"
"I'm not a racecar driver!"
(all three being really bad reasons not to learn)

Other than that, we're mostly nice.

I hate the transmissions themselves... I've watched one auto blow, and several have some waaaaaaay serious issues that would've cost $500 or more to fix... one of which was the classic TCCLS, and all it takes is unplugging it if you're willing to take a mileage hit until you have $500, or until you're brazen enough to DIY. That's what I would've done, but dad's car back then, it would've been $200 even going the DIY route...
