I just bought a new 2007 Mazda Speed6. My previous cars with manual transmissions were: 1928 Ford Model A Business Coupe,1943 Willys Jeep,1951 Buick Special 8 cylinder,1959 Chevrolet 6 2dr Bel-Air, 1963 Pontiac Tempest 4 cyl, 1977 Honda Civic, 1998 Toyota Camry V6 and a 1924 Model T ( with a 2 speed planetary transmission)

What exactly is a planetary Manual transmission? how do planetary gears work on a manual transmission?

Those cars mentioned were previous cars. (couldn't afford to keep them!) I now have only a Mazda Speed 6- they are all manual 6 speeds. 270 hp.
All model t's had the planetary transmission. It is actually quite advanced for the 1908-1927 period the t's were produced. It may be compared to a manual automatic transmission. The gas and spark advance are controlled by levers, one on each side mounted underneath the steering wheel. The model t has three metal pedals protruding from the transmission. the left is high (foot off pedal) neutral (pedal half way in/out. and low pedal in. the middle pedal out is neutral but pushed in, is reverse. the right pedal is the the brake, which slows and stops the car by stopping the transmission thus the driveshaft, etc. In addition there is a parking brake using rear shoe brakes actuated by a lever that puts the left pedal halfway out in neutral.
To blather on, one puts the parking brake on, turns the key to battery,chokes the engine (if cold) by pulling a control on the dash -if using an electric starter, or if cranking, pull a protruding wire from the front of the radiator, and start the engine. get in seat and switch the key to magneto, advance the spark and throttle while releasing the parking brake, engage low by gently pushing down the left pedal giving more gas. (like letting a clutch out, carefully, as you don't want to kill the engine). Get going in low, ease off gas and engage high gear by slowly letting your left foot off the left pedal-top speed for our 1924 T is maybe 35 mph level. To brake one pushes the right pedal down and you may use low to help slow down,Also reverse may help to stop!! when stopped you must push left pedal halfway in to neutral to avoid killing the engine (20hp) To back up,left foot pushes left pedal halfway to neutral and right foot pushes down on right pedal. all the time adjusting gas and spark advance with hand levers! You are now ready to go!!!!

Nice car! I love the Mazda Speed cars.
