Back to stick shift world again

Post by Saab_92X_Aero »

Just bought a 2006 Saab 9-2X Aero that has the 2.5 turbo engine and 5 speed transmission. So now I am back to the stick shift driving world again (long time ago I used to own a Honda Prelude with a 5 speed). Need to brush up my shifting skills. The 9-2X Aero is an awsome car to drive with the turbo and AWD (same car as the Subaru Impreza WRX wagon). It got tremedous accelerating power in the 3rd and 4th gears. I love to seek out an empty right-hand lane on a highway so I can push on and pass all the cars, especially on a long incline.

Welcome to SS.com! Just wondering, what's the weight of your car and how much horsepower does it put out?

Oh and Jack, how much would a turbo for my car cost? A small stage 1 or stage 2 at the max.
Do not try to find 3rd, for you may not always reach it. Just go up and let it reach you!

This 9-2X is the smallest wagon in Saab's line (or Subaru's line) weighted at 3179 lb. The 2.5 boxer turbo engine has 230 hp/5600 and 235 lb. ft./3600 torque, which is a lot for this size of car. I used to have a BMW X5 3.0i and the 3.0 I-6 is just not matched for its weight. The torque comes in really strong in the 3-4k rpm, so on hightway 3rd and 4th gears are where the fun is. I had BMW and Audi drivers looked at me stunned when I was flying past them. Since the car is still in break-in period, I try to keep the rpm not to pass 4k too often.

I'm pretty sure the X5 weighs more than half a ton. Did you mean two tons? Ton = 2000lbs.

Oh, and welcome back to standardshifting!

Subaru's are great, however, their weight is their disadvantage :? (talking about the lower end models... their top models produces great power-weight ratios)
