What up! Welcome to SS!

What do you think of the Mazda3? It's one of the cars I'm considering purchasing. Pros, cons?

Now, now. Unless it's the 2.5i, it's way out of the same price range. :P

The only cons that I can find are the HT issue, anemic A/C and you can't change your own oil. Mazda has some special tool that is needed and I'm not sure if they'll sell you one - I'll have to ask when I take it in to get the display fixed tomorrow. Dealership oil changes are so expensive...

Really? How much are you paying for yours? I get a full change (oil, filter, o-ring), and even a minor inspection, all for 20 bones, at my dealership.

And you can change your own oil. There's all kinds of DIY instructions over at mazda3forums.com. But granted, it is a PITA.

$33 - what a rip. I'll have to check out the forum you mentioned - never really thought to look into it.

Interesting . . .

I couldn't agree with you more; I do most of my own low-grade maintenance. There is no way I'm paying someone to rotate my tires and change my oil if I can do it for so much less.

Nah, there's no 'special' tool needed. The procedure just incorporates normal tools that you wouldn't normally have to use for DIY oil changes... Sorry, I don't know the specifics off hand.

Hmmm. That's what I was told. Maybe they didn't want to explain it further.
