In 2007 I was just entering college and my '95 Corolla probably didn't even break 100k on the odometer yet.

to be young...eye was rocking a 98 maxima with a recently replaced clutch. had that car for the longest of all my cars (5 years). was working the hotel back then and also at another hotel part time. SS meats were but a twinkle in our imaginations back then (first one was at the end of 2007 on LI, and first bigger meat in WV was in 2008) eye weep for the future...

Interesting you guys had a SS meet on LI? What part? I miss the old school Maxima's from the middle/late 90's I probably would've pursued trying to find one of those if I didn't get pushed into a Toyota. At the time I remember I was pretty much between buying my grandparents Corolla or my neighbors Saturn SL2 which was two years newer (1997). I probably would've really ended up liking either vehicle honestly haha but the Corolla was faithful for many years and about 100k.

wee met at the former hooters (RIP) near the coliseum, then we drove down to some parking lot along jones beach where we proceeded to drive each other's cars. John (Johnf514) from the pics had driven up from Florida to hang out with friends on LI, and another member Kevin (nonchalant) from i think Queens and eye were up for meeting up. other members were planning to come too but had to cancel. John was a very active moderator on the forums back then, but hasn't been on here much if at all in recent years.

Potowny- I was probably a hooligan around that area and didn't even know it. That is very close to where I live... probably less then a 10 minute drive. Small world for sure.

Forums overall are a dying breed. They have been replaced and outpaced by Facebook groups and other similar social media. SS isn't the only forum that I've heard of coming to a screeching halt.

Such is the future. Forums as we know them here will not exist all that much longer. Fact is, Facebook itself will have to reinvent itself or morph into something different entirely if it wants to stay relevant. A big social media revolution akin to what Facebook was will be coming. Mark my words.

I kind of disagree with this. I rotate in and out of 4-5 forums total and am daily active in probably 3 of them and I wouldn't really say forums are dying or getting replaced with Facebook. People may seek to use social media to outlet certain things but I'd hardly believe that Vortex is going to go under in a less then a decade due to it. I also post on some watch forums as well where literally there's probably 20 new threads an hour on the main portions of the forums. I've always loved message boards especially when seeking information/advice.

Admittedly when I joined here though I didn't realize it was slow but I found it be part of it's charm. A small circle...

I didn't say that all forums died. I am still visiting giant automotive forums such as The Car Lounge, which is similar to what you describe with many new threads popping up every hour. None the less, internet forum decline as we know it has been happening for a while and there are plenty of statistics out there that tell the story of declining post counts as compared to 10 years ago.
