Welcome! A few years back, I saw an old MGB for sale on the side of the road (when I was living in WV). It had been pretty much fully restored and was a beautiful car, though I didn't (and still don't) have the ability to go out and just buy one for giggles currently. Ah well, still a beautiful car.

A hearty "welcome" from a fellow noob to the board.
So far, none of the regulars have bitten. But I haven't asked nicely, yet, I guess.
I'm also a former Illinoisan. From where do you hail? I lived in the Chicago 'burbs as well as U of I territory. I have a friend in Bloomington-not-so-Normal.
Hope you enjoy your visits here.

I am also a former Illinoisan. Lived in Chicago proper for many years but more recently in Glendale Heights in the western burbs. Been in Texas for a couple years now.

So what got you to flee the land where Lincoln still votes? I fled a crappy job.
I used to live in Carol Stream! We were almost neighbors.
And now we both live where seldom is heard the scrape of the snow plow.

Well, I fled WITH the job. I've always wanted to try living in different parts of the country. When the opportunity presented itself, my boss sent me down here for 4 months to work and try it out, after which I moved here permanently.
No state income taxes, no food tax (grocery) and much much better area for my outdoor recreational hobbies mean that it was a no-brainer. Oh and lower cost of living overall was definitely a plus.

My aunt lives in DFW somewhere...
I've lived in a few places: Illinois (30 years), Alabama (the
longest eight years of my life), Connecticut (2 years), and now Norfolk, VA.
All I really need are cool people to hang with. Everything else is small stuff.
Now, if I just had time to haul my 'scope out and do some deep-sky observing again....
