switched to stickshift
hi all,
i have been driving a stickshift for about 4-5 months (i am in College Station, Texas), and gradually i feel more at ease with it. i used to drive an automatic car until someone rammed a truck into it and it got junked .
while looking around for used cars i came across this 96 Honda Accord (2D), with about 186k miles on it and within my budget, and decided to go for it, as i really needed a car quickly. i have to say i had a hard time in the first few weeks with starting the car from stop being the most dreadful thing !!
everytime i had an red light in front of me with cars behind me or on a slight downhill, i became hyperactive with extra attention on my left foot ! and the more i tried to think the more harder it got !!
it seems that over the last 1-2 months i have become more "at home" with everything and driving with more ease...and the car runs great too. i am glad i made the change, i guess driving has become more fun.
i came across this forum and decided to join in ... i think this is a unique place on the web.
hope to hear from you guys.... take care....

Welcome. Your experience with overthinking causing your driving to suffer is pretty common.

welcome to the site.
wow, 186k miles when you bought it. that's a lot. a friend of mine has had 3 5 speed Accord coupes and all of them have been very reliable, he wrecked them before they died.

Wow that interior looks nice for a 13 year old 186k mile car. How's the exterior?

Re: switched to stickshift
exterior is also grt.. no rust, chips, dents or anything -- some usual scratches on the fenders/sides, other than that things are nice. infact along with the car, i got a big file containing almost all (regular) service/repair receipts going all the way back to the first owner which was really surprising, and all of them took proper care of the car. i am the fifth owner and i hope not the lastDraklen wrote:Wow that interior looks nice for a 13 year old 186k mile car. Welcome to SS.
the only thing i dont like is the electronic alarm/locking system this model has.. it creates some stupid problems. i wanted to get it disabled, but the alarm is also involved with the ignition and batteries and may be something else, so i thought it is better to leave it alone.

Re: switched to stickshift
You probably don't need to be intimidated by the alarm's integration. If it's Honda OEM equipment then either it's easily configurable or there's plenty of documentation on how to disable it. If it's aftermarket then it was added easily and can be removed easily.
