Newb from Canada
Hey everyone, I'm Donald, 25, and found myself here when googling for a Manual Transmission forum. I'm in the Vancouver area originally from Edmonton, and I enjoy playing hockey, going camping, and being ridiculously addicted to these forums. lol.
My manual transmission days in high school 8 years ago after my dad bought an old 1990 Corolla LE to replace a Civic that was totaled. I drove it for 30 minutes and that was that. A month later, a bus strike forced me to get wheels of my own and with a meager $500 tax refund and a bit of cash I had saved up I bought an 86 Civic wagon and successfully drove it home without stalling. Even the choke was manual in that car lol but it served me well, went through a few road trips, and was probably my favourite car.
I bought a 91 Corolla LE in college, a decent "refined" car that was used to help switch three of my friends to manual transmission including one who wanted to buy an Audi S4 but didn't know how to drive standard. Sold that car last year to get a 2008 Corolla CE standard shift. My wife prefers driving standard as well so we've been pretty fortunate there but we're both dreading the day that we'd need a larger vehicle.
I'm thinking it's up to all of us to save the manual transmission and hopefully see a return of standard transmissions to larger vehicles. Hope to talk to all of you on the forum!

Haha, thanks for the welcome, eh! Lol.
I'm Asian so you can consider me an import and I'm 6'-1" which is tall for an Asian so you can call me big too. lol.
AHTOXA, they were great cars! I'll never forget mine. I bought the ultimate Civic wagon back in 2007, it was a 1988 Civic Wagon with Real Time 4WD that someone sold to me for $800 lol. It had a 91HP SI (non-VTEC) engine and a 5 speed standard transmission with a 6th "SL" gear for getting through steep hills or snow. It won't win a drag race but it was very fun to drive. I don't know if the 4WD ever kicked in but I went WOT and dropped the clutch on the highway in heavy rain and there was barely any wheel slip. Unfortunately some guy ran a red light 12 days later and totaled my car. I shed a tear when I signed the car away and went back to driving my 91 Corolla which seemed so blah after driving the Civic.
I've got a few more stories to tell, but over time. Good meeting you all!
(P.S. I am an Oilers fan... but I did enjoy the Nucks-Hawks game quite thoroughly! Good to see Sundin get his mojo back.)

Meh, youre not a real import unless you were born elsewhere. AHTOXA (Tony) was FOB.
If thats not the case, youre similar to Leedeth, our resident Canasian

I'll never forget mine either. Clutch was slipping at 2.5k RPM in every gear.
It had no radio, not even FM/AM. Nothing. No A/C and no power steering. Louder inside than a ten seater turbo prop.
