Welcome to the site.

Check out the FAQ
http://www.standardshift.com/faq/

I saw your other thread and you're just missing a rev-match in your downshift.

Slow down a bit
Clutch in
Shift down And blip gas
Clutch out

Learning how to Heel-Toe (HT) helps with rev-matched downshifts but isn't necessary.

Oh and PICS!!!

+1 on the pics. Nice car--1.8Ts have potential, but you better keep your oil changed....

Smooth downshifting isn't hard...like he said, depress the clutch, shift, give it a little gas, and let the clutch back out. Practice is key, you'll get it soon enough.

Some auto parts stores (Auto Zone, Advance Auto, maybe Pep Boys) loan out tools like that.

Also, $13 at Harbor Freight:

your best bet, take out the shocks and struts, then take it to a shop. They have a special machine that gets the spring out in like 1 minute. Pay them the 35 bucks and slap the shocks and struts back in. No problem, no hassle.

holla. congrats on the dub. we're takin over  . yeah esp on the passats, keep up with the oil changes and use synthetic. its the longitudinal motors that have the biggest sludging problems.

also, with a cai, make sure your not driving through puddles. not to mention when the air gets to the turbo, its not gonna matter what temp it is cuz that turbo is at least 1,000,000* . so id recommend a short air intake or just mod the stock box like i just did. took 15 mins and its awesome :D

well like i was saying i wouldn't do a cai at all. more problems than solutions IMO. the Neuspeed P-flo is a nice piece. comes with a k&n filter, breather filter and a heatshield. its usually about $150 new, but if you look hard enough you can find it for closer to $130-140. also, the Vortex tends to have a couple lightly used ones hanging around for about $100.

other than that, its pretty much either custom make your own with a few pipes and cone filter, or mod your stock airbox for free like me :) . you can get a cai if you really want to, its your car, im just not recommending it.

EDIT: lol you said french chef and it made me immediately think of green bean casserole for w/e reason haha. maybe the can of french's fried onion rings in a can that i always put on :D
