Links should open in new tabs/windows
Hey there.
This is just a small little annoyance I have with the board, but I think all URLs linked to from within posts should open within new windows or new tabs. I know there are other forums I visit where this is done and it makes life easier. I often click on a link to a video or something then close the tab not realizing that the window was once my standardshift window. Then I have to reload the forum and find that thread all over again.
Maybe it's just me?

Re: Links should open in new tabs/windows
it's not just you. i completely agree.
it changed when Standardshifter upgraded the software. there was a thread in this section where it was discussed and it seemed to be split pretty evenly with some people preferring one way and others preferring the other way and both sides being quite adamant about it.
it didn't get changed then, so i wouldn't count on it getting changed now, unfortunately.

Not opening in a new window still annoys the crap out of me.

Really. Hold shift for a new browser window or Control for a new tab. I don't want sites to try to guess what I want when it is so easy to control the behavior myself.

Important correction: this does not work in Opera. In Opera, it is the shift key for a new tab.Prodigal Son wrote:Really. Hold shift for a new browser window or Control for a new tab. I don't want sites to try to guess what I want when it is so easy to control the behavior myself.

FYI For my computer and Firefox, if you click the scrollwheel you will open a link in a new tab.

Yeah I know all the shortcuts to open the window in a new tab (ctrl+click for me, I use OS X, no such thing as a middle mouse button (or even a right mouse button!) for me )
It's just that I forget to ctrl+click because a part of me assumes that it should open in a new window.

Sure there is. Just go to configure it, unless it's a very old mouse. I had both right and left clicks on my old Mac at work.NonChalant wrote:Yeah I know all the shortcuts to open the window in a new tab (ctrl+click for me, I use OS X, no such thing as a middle mouse button (or even a right mouse button!) for me )

Re: Links should open in new tabs/windows
You should still be able to configure it to work differently on the left vs. the right side of the button. Might be wrong though. My boss used the laptop, I used the desktop.NonChalant wrote:Heh.
