interestingly enough, it tips the scale north of 3k lbs. that is terrible, although i have no doubt all that weight has gone into giving it a 5 star crash test rating.
Good to know. I guess the coupe is "all new" in a sense....all new to us in the states anyway.

3200lbs sounds like a friggen dream to me. Hell an STi & Corvette weigh about that. Many cars today are pushing 4000lbs and over.
considering my car weighs in at 3369lbs and that's for a full on sedan, i was hoping this car would be closer to 3k, especially it is minus 2 doors.

It is over 3000Lbs and has taller gearing for better fuel economy so will not be faster than the 335i...

well the 335i weighs about 3600 lbs. the 135i is surely lighter than that.

the 535i is about 100 lbs heavier than the 335, and its claimed 0-60 is only 0.1-0.2 sec off.

I saw several 1 series when i was in france, and they are slick looking cars.

I also saw a 780i, that car is freaking huge. I wonder what kind of engine is in that sucker.

anyway, I believe I saw a 1 sereis wagon/hatch looking thing, and it looked really nice.

It's quoted to have faster 0-60 acceleration time than the 335 on BMW's website. This will be a performance oriented car as the US will get the coupe only.

i did a little searching, and apparently thy're pretty rare, the 780i ones. Its probaly like an 8L V10 or something, and I believe they were only made in Germany, and that was like a very short run, like only a year or two, but I could be wrong. I found very little about them, other than that and that Mary J Blige has one she imported from europe (suppooseedly)

I always liked the styling of the BMW, but I think the allure of the beamer is the fact that you have to have some money to join the club. MB hurt themselves with their entry level strippers, so we'll see how bmw fares.

I know this is a dead topic, but I've been MIA for quite some time.

I'd love to have either one of these bad boys (128 or 135). I like the idea of no-frills, especially when it comes to Bimmers. Sign me up.

The new 1-Series is way too heavy to be a back-to-basics fun tossable sedan like the 2002 was. I think it does have lots of power equipment standard although I can't find where I read that. To be what the 2002 was, it would have to be 3000 lbs (like others have said). Using a 4 cylinder turbo would help accomplish that. RWD is better for handling but it is inherently heavier. I'm a Saabophile so I'll take a 3,200 lb Saab sedan with better all-weather traction, presumably more interior room and handling that's fun enough for me. My wagon weighs 100 lbs more but it helps handling with a bit of rear weight bias.

As for the design, I like the 3-Series, but the 1-Series looks like a 3-Series was heated and compressed causing warpage and curvature in some of the panels. I have to see one in person to be fair though. I think the 1-Series will take significant sales (and profits) from the 3-Series. It would be worse if the 1-Series looked better. People who buy 3-Series don't need much room to begin with and why pay extra for less performance or options you don't want? Lots of BMW buyers just want a BMW for the cache and some of these people can't really afford a 3-Series so they'll get a 1-Series.
