Cold start question
Well if there is one thing I stink at, it's trying to shift and drive smoothly while the car's engine is cold. One thing I do notice though is when I am taking off, since the engine is cold it idles at around 1500 rpm. If I just do a clutch release to get myself forward and then press the clutch in the revs shoot up to 2k and kind of linger here. Does anyone else's car do that? Must be some form of the idle air control valve trying to compensate or something.

Re: Cold start question
Clifford does that, but I usually try to let him idle down before driving off. Won't go so far as to let him "warn up" since that's a waste, but I like him to idle below 1k if possible.

Re: Cold start question
2003 Sunfire never idles 1500, but sometimes it'll rev up a little when I step on the clutch pedal aborting a no-gas launch.

Re: Cold start question
Ah good, glad to see that I am not alone. So it really must be something within the Idle control.

Prolly sum kinda stragety to get the catalytic converter to light-off sooner. It seams obtuse, but making more emissions early can heat up the converter / reduce emissions sooner so you get a net reduction in emission output.

Re: Cold start question
Yeah I figured it was something along those lines. Got to get to the Ulev status ASAP
