Who makes the gearbox (transmission) in your car?

Post by Shadow »

If you know the manufacturer of the gearbox in your car, tell us who it is....

BTW, I have no idea who makes the 6-speed gearbox in my Audi, so if you know who makes it, let me know.

As far as I know, Subaru makes their own transmissions.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Really? I didn't know that anyone was making their own gearboxes. I know the biggest suppliers are Getrag, Borg Warner, ZF, and Aisin. I really had no idea that any of the big car manufacturers were making their own...

Edit: I did find some info supporting the idea that Subaru makes their own manual transmissions. I also found that some of their automatics are made by Jatco.

I still haven't been able to determine who makes the gearbox in my car. But I have found some info stating that Getrag is a manual transmission supplier for Audi.

I've seen random Aisin boxes and indications under the bonnet of my Forte. Does Aisin do more than transmissions, or not do transmissions?

God question. Aisin does make transmissions, good ones in fact. I'm a huge fan of the AX-15 trans that was in many Jeeps including my old Cherokee. Great trans.

I wonder if we have the same trans. I do know that my 2.0 is not tthe same as tyr forte 2.0 of 2010 vintage. Not sure about 2011.

my honda uses a honda transmission. my old mazda truck used a mazda transmission, but whats interesting about that is that its the same transmission they used in the old FC RX-7's with slightly different 4th and 5th ratios.

GM still designs and manufactures their own engines and transmissions (to the best of my knowledge). The Cruze Eco has their 6 speed MF3 transmission.

Well, GM designs and manufactures their own slushboxes. For manual transmissions, maybe they do their own for FWD but for RWD they get off-the-shelf transmissions from common suppliers. My transmission (from a Chevy S10) is a Borg Warner/Tremec T5. Corvettes, F-bodies, GTOs, etc had T56's from something like the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. New Camaros have Aisin or Tremec gearboxes.

Ah yes, you are correct. Forgot about the RWD platforms having to be different.
