Why not both? My current setup is straight pipes into Flowmaster 40s with Kooks LTs and cutouts...sounds awesome, and scares women and children on command.

Cutouts for the same reason Cosmin put.

I'd say exhaust system. Cutouts are far more likely to get you pulled over compared to a moderate catback. You flick that switch and don't see that cop, even if you're not going that fast you're gonna get pulled over with something as loud as a GTO.

Not to mention the overall sound will be improved rather than going from nil to balls to the walls at the flick of a switch. A good catback is a good compromise.

if u get a good set of long tubes or stepped headers, the cutouts would be a good match on the race track. i dont kno how GTOs respond to these types of mods, but im thinkin that ull lose some low end torque in favor of top end pwr. however, a good full exhaust with a high flow cat and proper diameter should be more streetable and should yield a wider more usable powerband, so i say u should just get an exhaust.

custom make a header so that the collector is at the top of the engine pointing up towards the hood. get a hood scoop that points towards the windshield like on older camaros and bam, least amount of backpressure possible. also, no need for defrosters!

My exhaust fell off at the flex pipe once, so basically open headers. Holy shit was it ever deafening under throttle, at any RPM. I went full throttle a few times at around 1000-1300 RPM. God damn was it farty
