First, are we talking from the same year(s)? If so, I think the Escort would walk away with it:
1996 Honda Civic DX:
106 HP @ 6200
103 ft-lbs @ 4600
Weight: 2317 lbs
0-60: 9.0 s
1/4 mi: 16.5 s

1998 Ford Escort ZX2:
130 HP @ 5750
127 ft-lbs @ 4250
Weight: 2504 lbs
0-60: 7.4 s
1/4 mi: 15.7 s

Yes, the Honda is 160 pounds lighter, but don't forget: The Escort ZX2 was designed to be sportier and faster. It's gearing is probably much better suited to racing than the Civic DX, which is by far the most "economical" of all Honda Civic lines.

thats what my argument was, that the Zx2 had more power and was better suited for it but many poeple arguing me kept saying that the lightness of the civic along with...something about its launch ability or something would give it an edge.... i think their full of crap

Actually, the CX and VX hatches were more "economical" than the DX and LX. Civic EX versus Escort ZX2 would be a fairer battleNychold wrote:Yes, the Honda is 160 pounds lighter, but don't forget: The Escort ZX2 was designed to be sportier and faster. Didn't even know there was a CX or VX model.potownrob wrote:Actually, the CX and VX hatches were more "economical" than the DX and LX. CX was pretty much a stripped down DX with an even less power engine and even taller and wider spaced gearing. My friend has one that reminds me of the old Beetles. The VX was the ultra high gas mileage model. It had a 1.5 litre VTEC engine, but the VTEC was used only to achieve better gas mileage. For the 6th gen Civics (96-00) they did away with the VX hatch but then introduced the HX coupe which seemed to fall between the LX and EX but got better gas mileage than both. All the 6th gens were 1.6 litres. They also started to offer the CX hatch with automatic tranny...

That Zetec powered ZX2 will eat a Civic CX, VX, DX, LX, and EX alive and poop it back out. I hate people that always argue that a car with a less powerful engine and less weight will beat a heavier car with more power but more weight. There's no way a 2300lb Civic DX is gonna even come close to a 3200lb Corvette....that may be a bit extreme but you get the point. Jbody guys with Cavalier and Sunflowers used to always stake their claim that they "destroy" heavy V6 mustangs....YEAH RIGHT. Light weight isn't always the winner ESPECIALLY in the case of a Civic DX vs an Escort ZX2. The ZX2 will pwn that Civic all day long.

actually, the HX and VX models, however rare they are, are by far much more economical than the DX, CX is probably more econo-inspired than the DX though. But I still say the ZX2 would destroy the civic.Nychold wrote:First, are we talking from the same year(s)? If so, I think the Escort would walk away with it:
