are you serious, 9.4 Liter V8???? Thats huge. That should be like a V20billion its so big. I didn't know they made engines that big. Wow. I didn't think a M. Carlo could keep up with a Viper at all, but now I know how they did it.

Uh, yeah mate. California Speedway is straight down Cherry, and Irwindale Speedway is no more than 20 minute away. They also hold D1GP championships at Irwindale. We should go and watch sometime.

I doubt it's free, but it shouldn't cost too much.

True. This movie is mainly Nissan sponsored... i mean it really says something if they are actaully using a nissan engine in a Mustang.
I think using the RB26 is a tribute to the legendary straight-6 engine that is so much liked in Japan. Since the movie is set in Japan, it makes sense to be influenced by the Japs. Makes the locals happy.

Although it seems that many cars are Nissan, it probably agrees with what we see here in the US. When it comes to import sports cars, I usually see the population dominated by Silvias, Z's, LanEvos, so I'm sure that the cars were selected so as to satisfy import tuners in the US. I watch the series Best Motoring, which gives me a impression that sports cars taste in Japan is much different from the subculture depicted in the movie.
I still think the movie is mainly Nissan sponsored. Because why else would they use so many nissans. Every other car you see is either a Z or a Silvia. Noticed how there wasnt any Hondas or Toyotas (S2000s, Supras, AE86 (well there was 1 but it was a background prop... I think it belongs to Tsuchya  ), altezzas, Integras, etc.). I wouldn't argue that the legend of the RB26 isnt an influence on the producers using it, however, I think the main reason is because it's Nissan's best engine. And because they were mostly sponsored by Nissan, it would make sence to ask them to provide their best engine to be use.

From what I've heard, most of it was shot in japan, however, some of it was shot in LA as well. I know all the canyon scenes were LA shots.

In case you wanted to know, 90% of the filming was in Cali...they basically could only get some establishing shots and a few others...Tokyo wouldn't let them shut down any streets for any length of time.

Um, I haven't heard of those tracks being open to amateurs for drifting... Drag racing maybe, but even then, Irwindale is only an 1/8th mile track. They do hold Formula D and D1GP there though, for spectating.

Try one of those "Drift Day" things if you're interested. I don't know where they're held, and I don't think they're cheap, though.

Plenty of the older muscle cars (and some of the new American ones) have ridiculous engines stuffed under the hood. You'll see 1000hp beasts at the drag strip, and they won't be the Vipers and 'Vettes; they'll be the plain, boring big family sedans. There's a Pontiac "Big Chief" engine that's 634 cid.... which equals 10.4 L....

Back when I was into dumb and into drag racing (not that drag racing's dumb), I wanted to swap a Nelson Racing 704cid TT Big block chevy and chuck the 2jz-gte...

man...I kinda still want to...(drool)...3000 horses...(drool)....*cough* even though no set of tires on this planet could handle that...still...3000 horses....(sigh)

Sounds like a good idea, just for gits and shiggles. :)

I always wonder why the majority of high-power big-turbo Supras can't seem to get decent (relative) times at the dragstrip. I mean, they're fast, but their trap speeds always suggest that they could have gotten through with a faster ET. Definitely monsters from a roll, though.

I don't think they can put all their power down. 1000 horsepower and rear wheel drive can be lots of fun, but also very annoying if you want to actually move forward with a decent amount of speed.

Well, the big-turbo Supras I've seen have very peaky power curves, so they have relatively little power on launch. I'm assuming they shouldn't hook up too bad, and then they get in their powerband and pull hard once they're rolling. Beats me.

Thats what nissan gets for making RWD cars.

Mitsubishi missed the boat.
