. . . Except for when you run outta gas.

At WOT your car would consume a full tank of gas in under an hour. Not good for highway chases.

5x the limit??? Even at 35MPH, that's 175MPH. If you are going 175 in a 35 zone, you will have much bigger things to worry about than the police.

There's a straight, level 3.5 mile long road my neighborhood connects to called Riverside that is 35 MPH. You could technically do 175 MPH, if you had the proper vehicle.

You'd just have to watch out for the countless neighborhoods, driveways, and an intersection.

Admittedly, I had the old van up to 105 MPH on that road in the middle of the night. That was a long time ago.

Hmm i would thin it's a little longer than that depending on the car. I know the Mclearen SLR empties a tank at WOT in about 20 mins.

I wouldn't be surprised if jomo's STi empties its fuel tank in 30 minutes at WOT. Those things can get VERY thirsty if you don't treat them nicely.

Oh, and it's 19 minutes at WOT for the SLR. The Bugatti 16/4 Veyron empties its (25 gallon, IIRC) fuel tank in 14 minutes at WOT.

lol, based on the mileage i have heard ppl get in their STis at track days, i did a little calculation:

assuming 5mpg * 15.9 gallon tank = 79.5 miles. so i coud probably go WOT near redline for about an hour at 80 mph ;)

You cannot maintain a set speed while being WOT. Either you are at max speed or modulating the gas.

Try WOT in 3rd gear. That should get you close to 80 mph at WOT!

yeah, the veyron runs out in like 12 minutes at top speed, 252 mph or something similar, but in 12 minutes, thats pretty far. thats like 50 miles in 12 minutes, but if you were going like 100, you could go much further. Stilll, going 250 would be something of an adrenaline rush I would think.

One little pebble on the road, and your heart rate will increase by a factor of two.

hehehe, that would scare the crap out of me. Of course, those cars generate so much downforce, it would probably smash the pebble into the road.

then you're screwed, unless it's airbrakes can stop it, at least I think I saw airbrakes, or maybe it just uses the spoiler for extra air resistance, but that would suck badly. On second thought, If I was gonna run it at 250,I would take it to a track.

But for the .0001 secs. that he was close enought to me for me to see him I noticed that he was shifting his automatic himself. After the race I got in the car with him and he showed me what he was doing..tapping the brake then shifting into the 1,2,3 on his auto. Than he did the drag race again in D and I have to say I did notice a difference..shifting from 1,2,3 was a little faster. Also we did some drifting and other cool stuff in his crappy Honda using the same 1,2,3 technique. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this..and do you think its damaging his transmission.
I used to do this in my sunfire, since i was soooo mad it was automatic and didn't have enough time to have it converted at the shop...

so when i was bored i did this... thank god that part of my life is over and i'm back to driving stick...
