cant argue with my friends 400awhp evo8 thats clicked over 100k miles without breaking down every 10 feet.

evo > sti anyday. evos are just better looking and they have the best 4cyl of all time and unlimited power potential and unlimiter aftermarket and the drivetrain to make it all work. STis are cool and with equal lenth headers they sound like hondas, but that doesnt quite match up to the evo

Subjective. Opinion rather than fact.
permabanned wrote:evos are just better looking
Another opinion. I think otherwise. To me they look more like the boy-racer
permabanned wrote:and they have the best 4cyl of all time
Highly subjective. Too many variables that could define "best engine". It all depends on usage, demand and expectation.
permabanned wrote:and unlimited power potential and unlimiter aftermarket and the drivetrain to make it all work.
Nothing is unlimited. With enough resources both can be made equal

I would rather not have my STi sound like a Honda.

poshel na hyi

name a better 4cyl engine than a 4G63. ill be waiting. also name reasons that arent similar to 'it comes out of the car i like'. real actual figures.

reasons why 4g is the best 4cyl of all time:

block can handle 1000hp
unlimited aftermarket
6 bolt 4Gs are indestructible. 7bolts are the ones taht crankwalk.

the only 4cyl engine that comes close to 4Gs status is hondas B series. it was unreal how far ahead of its time it was back in 89.5 when it first came out, and to this day it still is very far ahead of its time, companies are just now introducing variable lift and timing when honda did it 20 years ago, and hondas A-VTEC is the most revolutionary valvetrain design in any engine with cams. AVTEC is the closest to completely independent and unlimited valve lift and timing that anyone has ever been. F1 doesnt even have anything like it.

i know i sound like a honda nutswinger, but once you get exposed to all the good things about honda and understand the achievements that they accomplished and how they transform tiny little engines into powerful indestructible powerplants, its easy to understand why.

You missed my whole point. Just because the block can handle 1000 HP does not make it the best engine for everyone. If you strive to build up a tubo 4, sure. That's why I said that it's subjective.

well 50 years from now nobody is gonna remember the engine in a geo metro for getting 789747389 mpg on a consistent basis. but they will remember the 4G as the poweplant that powered the 1000awhp Evos and DSMs to the grocery store to get ramen for their broke ass owners.

just like the 2JZ will go down in history as one of the greatest engines of all time. 1000hp ready stock from the factory.

when the talk is engines and engines alone, power is the only thing that matters.

How about this thing called "reliability" or perhaps "ease of maintainability"?
Power means shit if you cant keep the engine in good running order

I wouldn't even know what 4G stands from in terms of engines and I don't need to know. Ability to have 1000 hp has little significance to me. I don't care and don't need it. I like different engines for other reasons. That was the whole point - you're generalizing again.

Check Wards 10 best engines for another viewpoint. Wards Autoworld picks each year, but only going back to mid 1990s.
