Transverse is indeed the correct term.

Because it doesnt have to be transverse to be FWD. Nor does it have to be longitudinal to be RWD

Because it refers to the layout of the engine. FWD tends to use a transversely-mounted engine and RWD tends to use a longitudinally-mounted engine, but neither is universal.

Some noteworthy FWD vehicles with longitudinally-mounted engines:
Most Audis
Some old Renaults
FWD Cadillacs prior to 1986

Some noteworthy RWD vehicles with transversely-mounted engines (Yeah, so they're MR, not FR...It would be tough to justify that design choice for an FR):
Pontiac Fiero
Toyota MR2
Lotus Elise
Acura NSX
Ariel Atom

Alright that cleared up a lot. I'm still new to the world of cars so I still gotta catch up on a lot of terms to get closer to the same level as you guys

Just dont forget to clear your blinker fluid passages and top it off every 7k miles. A lot of new drivers fall behind and it causes quite a few problems down the road.

That's bull. You just don't need to clear the blinker fluid passages that often, unless you're using some awful blinker fluid or there's something wrong with your car.

I have always cleared my blinker fluid passages every 40,000 miles and never had a problem. I do use top-quality synthetic blinker fluid, though.

But this is a Mustang. Ford blinker fluid has crystallized azure ovals for increased brightness.

Oy! WTF is Ford thinking with those stupid crystals? Concentrated liquid win is available that would blue and brighten the fluid just right without requiring more frequent maintenance. I'd flush the system and replace the fluid with standard blinker fluid, adding win modifier to give it OEM qualities.

Call me old fashion, but I stick with frequent changes as per yesteryear's advice. I change my oil every 3k miles on the dot, and blinker fluid every 7k. Theres definitely no harm in keeping things fresh.

 In your earlier post you only said to top it off and clean the passages every 7k miles, not to change it.

What, am I the only person here who is a skeptic? Am I the only one who realizes that the blinker fluid industry has been pushing those silly intervals for too long? Modern designs and manufacturing techniques result in a vehicle that just doesn't need blinker fluid changed so often. More is bad for the environment, though good for the economy.

Sorry. Misstyped. I do indeed only clean the passages every 7 thousand miles. Ive never owned a car long enough to require a flush and refill.

you guys are all retarded haha.

transverse (thank you for correcting me) mounted RWD vehicles are usually MR or RR drivetrains, meaning that the engine is in between the axles (MR) or behind the rear axle (RR). longitudinally mounted FWD cars such as any audi with quattro, are FWD until the front wheels start to slip, and then through a VCD (varible center differential) controller it connects the rear wheels to the front so that you get better traction.

im sure they'll do just fine. the real problem i have to worry about is im pretty sure my muffler bearing is starting to go  not an easy fix on a b2200 of my generation. there are like 5 differentials in the way for you to even get to it, and once you do its encased inside the catalytic converter. not looking forward to that repair bill
