I've learned how to drive standard in about a week (in my brand new car, no less). Well, considering I somehow got the car home from the dealership, I would say I probably learned how to drive it in about 3 minutes. But it took a week or two before I was anywhere near decent. I now have a little ove...

Riding the clutch

I hear it all the time, and hear that a lot of new standard drivers do it. But what is it exactly, riding the clutch? Is it when you rest your foot on the clutch while driving? I can't seem to figure out what that means besides that it is extremely bad for the clutch.

Another noob mistake

Has this happened to any of you? I've been driving standard for about a month. This has already happened to me a few times (not in heavy traffic, thank goodness). Have you ever started making your way down the gears (of course, rev-matching while doing so) and realized your engine braking is not slo...

Re: Is my car singing the right notes?

hmm.. I've never really noticed that... Maybe cuz I don't rev in neutral. However, if my logic is right, it should sound differnt because when he car is in gear, there is sound of the gears turning each other, but if you're out of gear in neutral, there is nothing creating that sound. If you don't ...

Skip the kit and drop an SRT-4 motor in there and you've got one heck of a sleeper, I'll tell you that. No one would be laughing at you then.

If you are using engine-braking, as in no gas pedal, the engine should sound different because during engine braking in gear, the wheels run your engine instead of combustion. In neutral, gasoline runs the engine.

I rev to 1500 to 2000RPM in my car. It also has a performance clutch. I'm not sure if it is normal, but I do it too, if that makes you feel better =)

*edit: whoops. I realized I put 20000 RPMs in my orig. post. If I start at 20000RPM, I've got bigger problems, hehe

Okay. Thanks. It's good to know that I didn't break it. And BTW, it's a 6-speed. I redline at ~ 50MPH in 2nd gear (estimated, never been there). I was rev-matching, but for 4th, not for 2nd. And what I felt was more than just a "jerk," it felt like a head-on collision with a ghost car. It ...

What was the loud "bang" sound that I heard? I've read that the bang is also heard during high-rpm clutch-drop launches. Is it the same bang, and what causes that sound?

Did I damage my transmission?

Hi Everyone. I'm not new here (lurker) but this is my first post. I've been driving standard for around a month now. A few days ago, I was downshifting from 5-4, but missed 4th and accidentally grabbed 2nd. Here was my process: At ~ 50 MPH, needed to slow down -> clutch in, pulled out of 5th -> clut...
