Indian market: automakers see surge in demand for automatics

"NEW DELHI: The third pedal is slowly disappearing from the Indian market." "From just 2% till five years ago, automatics now form around 12-14% of the new cars sales with a bulk coming from the top-end sedan and SUVs sold that are sold with automatic options only." http://econom...

Re: Bicycling

Back in the saddle here so to speak. Started last year with some metric centuries, aiming for a couple of full centuries this year, and bring my average up from the 15mph average zone to a more reasonable 16-18mph average.

Re: Front page of standardshift.com

Yeah, I think the front page was hacked together before the 16:10 screens were released.

That, and many more, updates over the next few weeks...

Re: Let's talk motorcycles

Step one is take a safety class...

Dualsports/adventure touring bikes should also be on your list. Usually have higher seat positions so more cockpit room than most bikes.

Re: Who needs VTEC....

http://www.osti.gov/bridge/servlets/purl/827803-zQZq3S/native/827803.pdf There's a paper on the basics on what folks have been working on, sans using it as a wastegate replacement. There are prototypes out there for at least five years now for diesels. This case, the motor is on the other side of t...

Re: Who needs VTEC....

I believe BMW's system in integrated into one turbo... Basically adding an electric motor between hot and cold sides and helping to remove lag. Companies have been testing for a while with diesel motors, since temps are lower. Most materials lose their magnetism around 300 degrees F; tough condition...

Re: What it feel like to be 'alf British

I've found it isn't the which side of the road/shifting with left hand that's the issue. It is the car placement based on what feels like sitting in the passenger seat which gets the best of me. Add in typical narrow European roads and I've felt the tires get close to the berm/made contact with mirr...

Re: Clutch Pedal Starter interlock Poll

Once upon a time in my younger days, I did start a YJ Wrangler in gear. Got a nice three foot jump backwards and caught it before it stalled. First and only time I've made that mistake.

Gouge in door... Paint door, or dentless and touch-up?

First time in twenty-five years of grass mowing I hire somebody to cut the grass, and they dent the car. They are covering the cost of repair. Got an estimate, but it included painting the whole door. The scratch itself is about two inches long on the lower rear door. Worried that in five yea...

Cadillac CTS 3.6 Loses Manual Transmission For 2012

Cars like Cadillac’s 556 HP, rear-drive, manual transmission-equipped CTS-V SportWagon are the kind of offering that enthusiasts lust after, even if a relative “value-price” of $70k-ish keeps it in aspirational territory. And by offering a CTS “Performance Edition” with the option of mating a six-sp...
