Re: Are non sport turbo cars fun?

I have a VW Jetta 1.4 (have had it for the past 4 months). I admit I haven't driven many manual cars (this is the first one I've owned), but anyway, here's my 2 cents: It's definitely more fun than an automatic, but I'm not sure if that's enough for you to be interesting in getting such a car. While...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Don't want to say a told you so situation through and through but it couldn't be anymore black and white. Part that pisses me off the most is the fact that I was originally denied this TSB work straight up. "No applicable symptoms apply to this TSB", was the reasoning... now all of a sudd...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

i was looking at pics of different gen maximas, and thinking back to discussions of them on the org (maxima.org) back in the day, and realized the 5th gen maxima truly was the last of the decent looking maximas (unless you count the new gen). the 02-03 maximas in particular (and not just because of...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

oh the maxima definitely looks like it was designed by aliens, but it looks way better than the other nissans. i think the infiniti Q50 is a better value though, especially if leasing. As a former Nissan fan, I'd have to agree that their styling as of late has gotten funky. And with the price of th...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

i think it looks nice, but the cvt only option is a hard pill to swallow and, for not much more (and possibly for less if leasing), you can have an infiniti with AWD and more luxury features. :? :?: P.S.: the other nissan models look like cheap crap teleported from an evil 1970's parallel universe....

(I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention which one it is or not - I don't want to look like I'm advertising something I know little about) and periodically test the oil. Yes, you can definitely name it. I've only heard of sample kits that you use to mail a sample to a lab, but what you describe soun...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I was actually wondering about that as well, since I too am on my first turbo car (aside from a Cruze I only had for a few months back in 2011). I'd have to assume that they were designed with the non-enthusiast in mind who shuts down the car immediately. When possible, I still let the car idle for...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I'm curious about this as well, but from what I've read letting it run for a minute after driving isn't really necessary unless you've been caning it hard. If you've been driving around the city during normal errands the heat build-up is minimal. Then again Ms. Frizzle is my first turbo as well so....

Re: Clutch control on start

Thank you for the answer. 1. for your car and engine, it sounds like it's probably normal, but that doesn't mean you have to do it that way. you probably have to either add more gas or let out the clutch more slowly (if not both - i don't know how quickly you're letting the clutch out) to launch wi...

Re: How do you guys avoid pissing people behind you off when shifting?

This issue bothered me up until recently. At least with my car, I find that I get the quickest, smoothest 1-2 shift by shifting late (at almost 20 mph). As for smoothness, that will come in time. It took me until recently (about 3 months) to complete my 1-2 shift without slowing down or inducing whi...

Re: Clutch control on start

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm more relaxed about the clutch and its control, and I have to say a big "thank you" to the entire forum and who replied. I will try to partecipate actively to this community. Glad to hear that you're relaxed about it now. Feel free to stick around and ...

Re: First Time Manual Driver - 3 Month Update

Wow, this has become an interesting discussion about interior quality/styling, etc. At this point, there's way too much to respond to individual posts. In terms of interior styling, I am picky about it, but more from an ergonomics standpoint. I hate to become one of those VW snobs (especially since ...

Re: First Time Manual Driver - 3 Month Update

I've driven a Snuze and Clifford was eleventyone million times better. More power, a more sorted transmission, better suspension and, most important of all, not a Shitrolet/Daewoo. Yes, exactly. I mean, I've never driven a Focus so I can't report on that, but the Cruze has one of the worst automati...

Re: First Time Manual Driver - 3 Month Update

Yeah, it'd be one thing if they gave a big incentive to get the GLI, but they don't; I don't think they even qualify for the leasing and financing deals they have for the regular jettas. On the other hand, VW has their head in their rears when it comes to favoring the Golf over the Jetta in the sta...

Re: First Time Manual Driver - 3 Month Update

I don't think I have a slit in front of the e-brake, unless I missed it since I don't have a parking pass. I feel like not too many cars these days have coin holders, especially with more and more parking garages/meters allowing payment by credit/debit card or even app. I'm familiar with Roosevelt ...
