Stick keeps popping out of second gear

Hello I'm having this issue with my 2013 dodge challenger. When I shift from first to second, it seems to pop out of second. Last night while I was driving home I shifted from first to second and as I applied gas realized the engine was revving and I wasn’t moving. It wasn’t actually in second, so I...

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

The Dodge comes with a feature to force a 1>4 upshift under certain throttle settings and upshift speeds. I've heard from some people who never notice it, because they don't operate in that window, but others hate when it forces them to make that 1>4 upshift. I've heard that the window has been nar...

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

HER problem sounds like engine braking. I know if I'm still rolling a little and select 1st as if to get moving from a stop, the car will slow down when I engage the gear. Unless you're starting from a dead stop it'll have this behavior. Its counter-intuitive because you expect 1st will get you goi...

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

I think this happened to me today when I was mostly stopped, but felt fully stopped. I hadn't rev-matched into 1st and the car got very annoyed. I never really thought about "rev matching" into first from a stop (or "mostly" stop). I always just think "well I'm stopped so I...

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

has it happened with him in the car? if so, does he have pointers on how to "fix" it, or get going better/faster? No, it usually happens when I'm leaving work. I work in a small "city" area, so leaving work I get a lot of cars slowing down and stopping with no particular rhythm....

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

That sounds like you're still moving slightly but it may be feel stopped since you executed an evasive maneuver. What's happening is engine braking, also known as compression braking. You're effectively using the engine to slow your transmission without realizing it. Does this seeming braking come ...

Re: Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

Can you describe better "feels like the car tripled in weight and it doesn’t want to get moving"? That's the part that's hard to describe, it just feels like the car doesn't want to go forward, it's difficult to get it to move. Normally, say if I'm starting from a stop light, I begin to e...

Slow to a stop, but then immediately keep going

Hello All, I’ve been driving stick for about a month now, having no prior experience with it. I’m improving week by week, but I still make mistakes and I wouldn’t quite say “I’ve got it” yet. I’m not well-versed in car talk so I’ll try my best to describe the situation I’m having. So here’s an issue...

Re: Hello from Tucson

(Also, a bit of a necro-thread. As this forum has been around for years, check the dates if you want the original poster to respond to you as they might not even be active anymore. Though us regulars will probably still respond if there is something to contribute.) Yes, I figured that out right aft...

Hello from New Jersey!

Hello! I’m new to the forum, new to a stick shift as well. I’ve wanted to learn stick for years, it’s one of those things I admire about someone who can do it, like knowing another language. Plus my fiancé drives a stick, so the only way I’m going to get my hands on his badass vehicle would be to le...

Re: Hello from Tucson

I've been driving stick for two weeks, and during week 1 I had a similar experience. I was driving along slowly and the car in front of me stopped - sort of - and then decided to make a left hand turn. I wasn't sure how to handle the situation (not sure if I was stopping or not), I ended up stopping...
