Re: Driving on the "wrong" side of the road

Went to Bermuda for a week. They drive on the other side being an English colony. I rented a moped for a few days and it took a little getting used to. for me the BIGGEST hardship was looking before you pulled out into traffic or across a road. It's not that I didn't do it, but you are programmed to...

Short Shifter vs. Cut Stalk

Before I begin I will say on all the prior manual cars I've owned, I have installed short shifters and had great experiences with each of them. The shifts were noticeably shorter, cleaner, faster, and really allowed me to enjoy the car more; especially when catching a gear that little bit faster so ...

Re: Flat-bottom steering wheels

Problem?

Seems to be across the VW/Audi line to do this to their more performance/sport oriented cars. I personally love it.

Re: Need help: How to paint a polished stainless steel exhau

Personally I wouldn't go flat black but that's my own opinion. I would just get some steel wool and scrub them down to a brushed finish instead of polished. Would still look great while being less flashy. But if you are interested in flat black still, check out VHT high heat paints. http://www.vhtpa...

Re: Back in a Manual and It Feels SO GOOD!

Speaking of highway 6th...how's your gearing? Back in 2008, VW's 6th gear was the same as 5th on their 5-speed transmission, and definitely not a highway gear; my Rabbit did 3000rpm at 70mph in 5th and a 2008 GTI would do the same in 6th. The 2.5 could have easily had passing/climbing power in a mu...

Re: Back in a Manual and It Feels SO GOOD!

Welcome. Cool car! I like this phrase: "clean styling without being too boy-racer". I like similar qualities but have never found such a great way to say it. And it's not meant in a negative connotation at all. Just that some of the styling of performance/sporty cars like say the Mazdaspe...

Re: Downshifting to 1st gear?

The only time I've downshifted to first while moving is when I am in a line of heavy traffic and dropping below 10-15mph. I'll push the clutch in, rev match a bit then pop it to first. Otherwise it doesn't happen.

Re: Back in a Manual and It Feels SO GOOD!

Welcome....that's a nice ride. I've never seen anyone with a "Save the Manuals" sticker on their car. I'm actually a member of that club on Car and Driver's Backfires website. I found the stickers from C&D available for sale again so I picked two up. Usually I'm not a decal guy but I ...

Re: Car Cleaning/Care FAQ

I would avoid the tire "sprays" just because they tend to get everywhere and do not absorb into the tire as well as a gel product. If you just spray it on and don't let the car sit for awhile you run the risk of the excess spray being thrown off the tire and it ends up along the doors and ...

Back in a Manual and It Feels SO GOOD!

Hi all, I'll give you some background in my intro. I've been driving manuals pretty much all my life. From a 92 and 94 Saturn SL1 then a 2002 Civic EX Coupe. My most recent car was a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR AWD that did it's job well for my 70 mile round trip commute through horrible traffic both ways...
