Re: The car that I learned to drive stick shift....

Yeah i think one of the thing that M3 is picky with transmission is the 1st and 2nd gear are somewhat nochy and the clutch its got some kinda CDM or something that acts as a delay, that kinda interferes when you are shifting. I am not sure how it works, but from what i understand a lot of guys remov...

Re: The car that I learned to drive stick shift....

The car that i learned or learning manual i should say is BMW M3 E46. Its kinda craze because its so much car for a beginner but i have managed to keep my self out of trouble so far. I also read that M3 is not easiest car to learn on driving manual, folks that been driving for years and switched to ...

Re: Sometimes you have to slip the clutch?

Honing your situational awareness helps quite a lot in this scenario too - getting used to looking through the car in front of you (or if not possible - around the sides of) to the cars ahead of it will give you a better read on when to move and when to coast. Get good enough at this and you can mi...

Re: I feel like I am taking steps backwards rather then forw

I don't think the number of miles is a good measure of how much "action" you see. Someone driving 15 miles in the city is seeing substantially more shifts per mile than, say, someone making 75 mile trips everyday on the interstate. Regardless, you can never really have "enough" ...

Re: I feel like I am taking steps backwards rather then forw

I noticed in your post regarding the shift from 1st to 2nd. If it makes you feel any better, that is probably hardest shift to get right for me too. When i shift from 1st into 2nd, sometimes if i do it to fast and car kicks forward a little bit, and sometimes if i want to make it smooth, i smoothly ...

Re: Sometimes you have to slip the clutch?

Not bad at all. Even if you just partially engage the clutch to make the car creep forward and then step on the clutch pedal again, it's fine. There's really nothing bad about partially engaging the clutch to move forward a bit. And when I'm in traffic, I'll often stay in the same position until th...

Sometimes you have to slip the clutch?

Re: Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

Welcome back! :) I am not sure on Hondas but on my m3, i tend to rev up to around 1200 to 1500RPM for launch. If you are on incline i normally am in the 1500RPM range. Listen to the engine sound that will give you a clue if you over doing it. I also think if you are reving 2000 RPM to launch its a l...

Re: Its starting to become second nature.

When i left my home today it was not snowing much i thought this will go a way and took my M3 to work, but now weather forecast is saying 2-4in of snow. On my M3 i still have the 19 OEM Sport tires. I will have to use all my skills today and take the corners slow on my way home. Nermin I attempted ...

Re: Its starting to become second nature.

I think consistency is the key word here. I by no means am an expert, i still consider myself a beginner. However i think that i have made a lot of progress in the last month, i don't stall my car as much and, i getting a good feel for what a good gear shift should be, i am not nervous taking of on ...
