Otherwise, what I usually do is I clutch-in, use the brake pedal, but I downshift as the brakes slow down, so that I can let the clutch out and accelerate again, say, if I'm appr...

Re: NAIAS - It LIVES!
I was shocked to see how many show vehicles were manuals. The new Chevy Sonic (Aveo replacement), Subaru, Honda, Ford, BMW, Mini, VW, all had at least two or three manual vehicles on display.

Re: What influenced your interest in manual transmissions?
Well let's see. As a wee little lid living in the hills of Pittsburgh (when I was like 5 or 6, riding in a guy's 1997 Dodge Neon 5-speed) I thought he was a bad driver, because the car would jerk every now and then. 10 years or so later, I realized he was driving a manual transmission. Another one i...

Re: 5-speed vs. 6-speed
My Dad has a 2004 Mazda3 with a 5-speed. I've often found myself wanting a sixth gear on the highway. When I'm going 80 MPH or so, in 5th gear, the car is just above 3400 RPM or so. I imagine with a sixth gear, it would be lower?

New to the forum!
Hey everyone. I'm Eric B. I'm 19 years old, and I've been driving stick for about 4.5 years. It all started when my Uncle taught me the basics in his red 1995 Honda Civic Coupe. Never got past 3rd gear on that thing, as it was up and down his 1/4-mile driveway. That was all I had for about 2.5 years...
