Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

So I went to a mechanic by me who i've been to before for a synthetic oil change and before he does it I ask him how much....$75. Seriously? I need to start doing it myself, but what a rip off. My Acura dealer by me does it for 57. He told me "on that car" it costs more. What? It's an Acu...

I can see that happening. It basically smells like highly-refined diesel/kerosene.
It's also oily as shit, I hated having to put that stuff in my bike so the engine wouldn't ping itself to pieces.

People always seem to think the biggest arseholes drive Beemers and Audis, but from my experience the biggest displays of arsehole-ship have been made by Solara drivers.

Re: Project Christine slo Hackensteinberg

I can tell you it was somewhere between 5 and 20 ft-lb. Am I gonna burn up my wheel bearing? The wheel does not fail the rock test anymore, and spins freely. Nah, you should be concerned if you give it a good spin with the wheel on and it comes to a stop very quickly. I got my instruction on wheel ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Congrats on the new job! A few months ago I had my Sonic to indicated 105-ish. It was fun. I've had our '73 convertible up to GPS-indicated 105. The mechanical speedometer read 80-something. Also a couple of weeks after I got the Nazi Battlecruiser I took it up to indicated 125 on a quiet thanksgiv...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Can I stab the next person to recommend flushing the transmission in my Malibu. I never hear good things after a flush. The way I roll is either do it religiously or never do it at all. Merc wagon, Nazi Battlecruiser, and the '73 SL all get their fluid changed at 12k (or at least will when they hit...

Re: Project RA24 Celica

Same here, though CT doesn't have vehicle inspections. We just have emissions testing. But if it fails and to fix it costs over I think 800 buck you'll be excused for another 2 years or something. That would've been nice for our old Merc wagon. I want to say it failed about 4 or 5 emissions tests, ...

Re: Project RA24 Celica

Unfortunately, I've since lost my know-how about carburetors. This might be able to explain it better, since it is true that the Weber DCOEs and Dellorto DHLA are virtually identical. This doesn't say anything specific about DCOEs, but it should give you a good idea about where to go. Also, unless y...

Re: Project RA24 Celica

Sure, I suppose that happens, but there are some cars I see with failed suspensions, bald tyres, shredded wipers, burning oil, etc. that shouldn't be on the road and their owners just mail in their checks and get renewed registrations. Some of the shitboxes I see on the road here in CA make me wond...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Ugh today has been an adventure. Left home this morning with a 2000lb tandem-axle car trailer in tow to go back to Tahoe and get our broken wagon back. Retrieval went well, but when we went back to the car after dinner, we noticed a shitload of grease splattered in the passenger wheel well. Peeked m...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

On that subject, who uses CEL versus MIL? I've tried writing several posts trying to explain the difference, but basically it boils down to that check engine is an old term. Early OBD cars had a check engine light because one computer did the engine, another for the transmission, another for the an...

You should get one of the new Ford F-450 Platinums. Only $67,775.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Just overpowered my rev-limiter trying to get on the motorway. Gotta live douche canoes who pretend they don't see you and refuse to back off when you're already at cruising speed. That's basically the primary reason my cars see the redline. Never hit the rev limiter doing that because most are aut...
