I just wanted to say thank you

I just wanted to say thank you to the people on this board. I bought a 2007 Honda Fit five years ago now, and it was my first standard. My (ex)husband could not sit in the car with me without screaming at me about doing it wrong and I never thought I would be able to learn to drive it. I was so frus...

I just want to thank you guys so much! I'd never make it through these two weeks if it wasn't for this board!

Skip Shifting and Snow, although not at the same time.

I promise I'm getting better! I'm still a little rough, but most of my stalls now are when I try to launch it in 3rd gear by accident, and that's not all that often. Am I hurting anything my skipping shifts? Specifically 4th gear. Usually I'll shift from 3rd to 5th, because 4th gear seems so short a...

Misc. questions

For reference, I've just been driving stick reguarly for 4 days now. I'm really bad at it. I drive a 2009 Honda Fit. 1.) I have a 15 mile commute to work, most of it is spent on a major route. The traffic goes from 35 - 45 miles an hour. The average speed is about 38 mph, with bouts of occasionally ...

Re: Why do people provide free advertising to car dealers?

When I bought my Fit I was all ready to fight the Honda dealership about the stickers. I had a rant all planned out in my mind where I would tell them that I would not drive out of the lot until they took the sticker off. It ended up coming out like "Hey, please don't put any stupid stickers on...

Re: Hello my name is Debbie, and I can't drive stick

Hey, I just wanted to thank you all. Prodigals reply specifically really helped it click. I think one of the things I was doing wrong was feeling it start to catch and thinking I was done with the clutch so I'd just let it out quickly. If I wait until about 5MPH before it's fully out it seems to hel...

Hello my name is Debbie, and I can't drive stick

That pretty much sums it up. Over the years I've had a few stick driving experiences, mostly bad. My husband has tried to teach me many many times, but he gets so upset when I stall the car and he just generally is not a great teacher. Every driving experience usually ends with me in tears because I...
