Re: Stalling in 2nd gear at low speed

Just to add to the points already made: If you have a 6MT, chances are that you will be able to cruise at low speed comfortably since it's geared a bit better for that reason and pulls harder at low speed vs a 5MT. If you have an engine with a good amount of torque delivery down low you will also be...

Re: Hard acceleration 1-2 from a roll rwd- clutch feel

Yuck, that's a pretty heavy load you got there)

Happy to report that clutch feel is back to normal. Primarily due to slight glazing like you've mentioned.

I think the culprit was the DSC which I forgot to turn off and it made some work on the clutch when modulating tire spin.

Re: Hard acceleration 1-2 from a roll rwd- clutch feel

Thanks Holycow.

It is smoother under normal acceleration although I still have good pull in all gears 1-6 at various rpm without going WOT.

Might have to work through it a little to unglaze if that's the case, but I don't have any slippage under any circumstances)

Hard acceleration 1-2 from a roll rwd- clutch feel

Did anyone notice at times that after shifting under heavy acceleration the clutch seems to have been engaging much more smoothly during the regular driving. It is almost as it wore off a bit but still pulls in all gears just fine. I didn't smell any clutch whatsoever. Shifting 1-2 is very smooth. A...

Re: Some Concerns...Need help

My friend has 2010 manual GTS and I drove it when he got it. The shifter is VERY smooth. It's probably the smoothest shifter I tried out of mazda, subaru and bmw. Subaru had the notchiest shifts, followed by mazda (i only tried mazdaspeed3).

Re: 5-speed vs. 6-speed

for me, the most important consideration between 5-6 speed would be the use and ratio of the 2nd gear. On a 5 speed, 2nd gear is generally less usable at low speed (driving on parking lot etc) vs 6-speed, sometimes forcing you to go into 1st in order not to stall when going really slow. 6-speed will...

Re: Launch from red lights as fast as possible?

In a manual tranny u'd just hit gas and clutch (of course I'd try to avoid hitting the clutch early on, to still keep the car in gear and able to manouver out of the problem zone, but your reflexes might get the better of you by forcing to press both pedals right away). Woah!! :o you mean brake and...

Re: Launch from red lights as fast as possible?

I give you one example from my experience where neutral could've caused a crash. doing a right turn on a residential road from a major one, I've hit an ice patch about 20 meters+ from the turn. I lost the grip and started sliding in a straight line towards the turn. I kept pumping the brake pedal an...

Re: Launch from red lights as fast as possible?

straying off topic here, but why the heck would people want to get into neutral in an emergency situation. To me it sounds totally unnecessary and dangerous in either manual or auto. You completely lose control of the car by neutral-shifting and you are left at the mercy of forces of nature. In an a...

Re: Launch from red lights as fast as possible?

you could do an agressive 4-5 k launch if you are that desperate and you'll probably beat the majority of autos if done right. The only launch advantage manual has over an auto is being able to spool up the engine to a high rpm value. Even then, many sportier autos come with launch controls nowadays...

Re: No heel & toe? No problem! - Doing it the right way:)

To set the record straight, this was meant to be the "right way" of doing it without heel toe. Not the actual, politically-correct way to downshift. Now, if any of you are familiar with BMI (best motoring vidoes), there was a showdown with panizzi vs some of the best japanese race AND rall...

Re: No heel & toe? No problem! - Doing it the right way:)

I doubt that this logic will be implemented on manual cars. Automatics possibly, but performance cars will never have it I think. Sales will go down and companies will be forced to eliminate the manual trannies completely or lobby the govt to allow them to forego this scheme on "performance&quo...

Re: Hill Starts by shuffling feet

45 degrees is a pretty damn steep hill-lol So I'm sure you'd be uncomfortable on anything below 30 degrees, but like everyone said - hand brake is your friend. It might need to be adjusted if the car still continues to roll a bit when you applied it.

Re: Tinton's '88 Fiero GT 5-speed

Might wanna adjust your brake pedal movement. I imagine heel-toeing will be pretty difficult with such sensitive brakes.
