Re: How much do you drive manual for the performance reasons vs. the experience?

Looks like there are some reliability casualties and the new 8 speed era is not all fun and games... The GM 8 speed drove quite well, although not ZF 8 speed level, when I tried it out. You are right for my particular car, though I mention top speed because the bigger brothers of this car, the BMW M...

Re: I'm starting to get depressed about the automotive future

It's funny you post this Shadow, since I too have been feeling the same way about trying to find a new car with a stick shift. With the C8 Corvette launch tonight, another performance car no longer offers manual transmission. I see you drive an Audi A5, can I suggest the BMW 2 series? Along with the...

Re: How much do you drive manual for the performance reasons vs. the experience?

Hey rob, I drive a BMW M240i 6MT now, haven't updated haha - but I really do miss the Prelude from time to time. I created this poll because I used to think I was 80/20 or 60/40 performance/experience split, but the fact that I picked this car, means I'm probably 40/60 and do sufficiently enjoy the ...

Future of manuals poll: When will the last performance car where the manual is faster than the auto be produced?

Hello everyone! Trying to not make this sound too fatalistic, haha. Looking at another car now, and the landscape is a total sea change from a decade ago - an interesting sight to observe. I used to always extoll the virtues of getting your faster launches in and not losing power on acceleration, es...

How much do you drive manual for the performance reasons vs. the experience?

Hey everyone, back from a long hiatus, looking at a my next car again. So much has changed in the last decade that I'm seriously questioning what a manual transmission means in today's automotive world. However, I figured out of all places, this might be the place to poll. I'm realizing as I'm looki...

Re: Where is WINTER?!?!?

Winter ran away this year... Came back home from Boston (where I'm going to school) for winter - only snowed once fall semester, in October. In the 3 weeks I've in been in California, I haven't seen rain at all... and there's no snow in Lake Tahoe, people are going crazy cause they can't ski :O

Re: Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

Thanks for the advice and welcomebacks everyone! Shadow, when I mentioned 'launching', I meant to say just regular starts. The way I'd been trying to do it before is rev to about 1500/2000rpm then keep my foot at the same level on the gas and then let out the clutch. This worked OK but I think was t...

Hill starts, launch RPM, and basic shifts

I haven't posted on here in forever (too much school I guess) but I recently got a 2001 Honda Prelude SH 5-speed (woohoo!) so I'm driving manual for real. Anyway, I'm having some questions as I get into stick shifting. First (geared toward people with Hondas and Honda-like cars), what's a general go...
