Re: Poll: Using the emergency brake on hills

I have no idea. Maybe the angle sensor was off a few times. And maybe it got confused (because actually one time was on a slight slope downwards). In any case, I refuse to believe it was my fault, so I blame the system :) (a bit arrogant of me, I know; but I drive a manual for many years, and while ...

Re: Poll: Using the emergency brake on hills

I drove a car with hill-start assist once (a Fiat Punto), and I hated it. I didn't have any use for it when hill-starting (I live in a hilly city, used to hill-starting from day one), but I did manage to stall the car a couple of times on flat ground, because the stupid system apparently held the br...

Re: Your habit when your release the clutch

I was taught to keep the heel on the floor, but ditched this habit shortly after getting my license.

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Except for quite old stuff, I had no compatibility issues whatsoever. Both Windows 7 and 64-bit are supported by all the modern hardware.

Besides, I have 6GB of RAM, so 64-bit is a must :)

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

^ can't get High Stakes to run on Windows 7 x64 (should try some more). Anyway, I'm afraid it's gonna be a PITA to force it into widescreen, although I could make my TV play in 4:3 mode :/ It was the first game I ever bought, and when buying it I had no idea it's NFS4 - I thought it was the full ver...

Re: Life & Death of BMW’s Naturally Aspirated Engine

I have mixed feelings for forced induction. In other words, sometimes I love it, and sometimes I hate it. I love subtlety, and I think it's great when you have a small-engine, non-pretentious looking car, which can leave bigger and fancier cars chocking in its dust. But then again, when I think abou...

+1. Up until Porsche Unleashed (included) the NFS series got better and better. I think that ever since then it's a decline, and this new game hardly manages to be as fun as the very first games in the series.

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Yup.

Gorgeous graphics and very arcade control make it a nice time-burner. But I'm personally disappointed, because I hoped for the revival of the original Hot Pursuit and High Stakes, and it's nothing like them.

Re: What car models are mostly stick?

Alfa Romeos You have to look pretty damn hard to find an auto Alfa, and then, it'd probably be one of the suckified FWD 164s. Also older Mercedes AMG iirc. I know in the late '80s you could get a 500SL AMG with a 5-speed. Unfortunately, modern Alfas come with auto gearboxes as well. In fact, the la...

Re: question about upshifting

Try pushing the clutch as fast as you can, then you can release the gas almost instantly (which prevents high revving when the clutch is depressed), and on the other hand there will be no engine braking and jerkiness. Clutch release should be smooth - clutch depression can be as abrupt as you want. ...

Re: The proper way to take a turn.

Concerning the jerk forward when releasing the clutch in 2nd gear - you don't have to rev-match to complete it smoothly. Rev-matching will help, but if you don't - you still can simply release the clutch smoothly and there will be no jerks. As long as there are jerks - it just means you're releasing...

Re: How long did it take you to completely get over hills?

My driving teacher had an interesting approach to hills. On one of the first lessons, he said that hill-starting is not different from regular starting, in essence. The amount of gas is a little bigger, and the clutch release maybe a little more gentle - but the point is still the same: you let the ...

Re: Why are sticks more common in some cars

Let's suppose that most humans would prefer an automatic transmission, since from their point of view - doing less is better. In that case, AT should be present in all the cars, and manual transmission should be long gone. This is not the case, and let's see why: Small, cheap vehicles 1. MT is cheap...
