Re: Where does your car redline?
8000 rpm. Max HP is at 7900 rpm so I have to rev it up to get any sort of power. There's absolutely nothing under 2000 rpm which is sort of annoying when I roll through a yield sign in 2nd at 1000 rpm.

Re: Do you look inside cars to see if its stick?
I usually won't go looking to see if a car has a manual transmission. However, if I'm going to check out a really nice car that's parked I definitely check. A couple of months ago I was checking out a Porsche Cayman S and was disappointed when I saw the tiptronic transmission.

don't know about that detector but i highly recommend the Valentine 1 I'm about to go buy a Valentine 1. I've heard it's the best one on the market and the arrows are indispensable. The only concern I really have is parking my car somewhere and having the Valentine 1 in plain sight. I've read that ...

Heel Toe Experience
So I've been practising my heel toe downshifts and I've been getting pretty good at it. My pedal setup uses a floor mounted throttle (DBW) that's a fair distance below the brake pedal. I'm using the sides of my right foot instead of the traditional heel and toe which seems to work better. I executed...

Anybody near Ohio up for a meet? I might be up for a meet. I'll admit I'm fairly jealous of the Orlando meet. They must have had a great time. I'm about 200 miles east of the OH-PA border so it shouldn't be too bad of a drive. A friend lives in Akron so maybe I could visit him too. I can't drive ou...

Re: Fun night of driving a BMW 330ci
So everywhere we went I got to drive it. It was awesome. You can rev it to 7k with out even noticing it, except for the speed. Everything is so smooth in the car and it handles like a dream. Hey, nice car you got to drive there. :D That redline sure does come quick in that car (though I think the Z...

This has been a topic of discussion in the past. The reasoning for not setting up a SS.com-based IRC or other chat medium is because it would detract from individuals posting in the forums. That's true, hadn't thought about that. If there was a Java based client available on the site it'd be easy f...

yeah i remember that, only problem is that the car was an auto  later in the movie you can see and hear him (or her, not sure which was driving) throw the PRNDL lever on the dash into park. I guess I was hoping that was a column mounted shifter instead of a PRNDL lever. Couldn't reall...

I actually just watched the movie Firewall where there's a scene of them bump starting a car. Harrison Ford's character is pushing this car down an alley yelling to the driver 'Pop the clutch! Pop the clutch!'. Throughout the rest of the movie he keeps reminding the driver to keep the motor running....

as long as you aren't blasting down the street, you're fine. It doesn't really warm up much if you leave it at idle, but if you drive for about 5 minutes, your car should be up to operating temp, and then you can have fun with your Bimmer. 8) I drive through mostly residential neighbourhoods so the...

Short trips
Is there any harm in making a short trip without letting the car warm up fully? My commute to work is about a mile and I'm sure with the colder tempatures during the winter season my car will not be even close to warmed up when I get to work.
Or should I let it warm up / drive around a bit?

Thanks for the kind words. Is the car fast? It's decently fast. Certainly much faster than my previous car. More than double the horsepower and torque. That 330 is just one model short of an M3. But the M3 is a completely different machine. I'm almost scared to go test drive one for fear of trading ...
